Boast of Water-Run Car Thrills Pakistan

The assertion — based on the premise that he had discovered a way to easily split the oxygen and hydrogen atoms in water molecules with almost no energy — would, if proven, represent a stunning breakthrough for physics and a near-magical solution to Pakistan’s desperate power crisis.

“By the grace of Allah, I have managed to make a formula that converts less voltage into more energy,” the professed inventor, Agha Waqar Ahmad, said in a telephone interview. “This invention will solve our country’s energy crisis and provide jobs to hundreds of thousands of people.”

Federal ministers lauded Mr. Ahmad and his vehicle, sometimes at cabinet meetings. The stand-in minister for religious affairs, Khursheed Shah, appeared on television with him and took a ride in his small Suzuki rental, which was hooked up to a contraption that Mr. Ahmad described as a “water kit.” Respected talk show hosts suggested he should get state financing and protection.

The country’s most famous scientist, Abdul Qadeer Khan — revered inside Pakistan as the father of the country’s nuclear weapons program and reviled elsewhere as a notorious figure in the international nuclear black market — gave it his imprimatur, too. “I have investigated the matter, and there is no fraud involved,” he told Hamid Mir, a popular television journalist, during a recent broadcast that sealed Mr. Ahmad’s celebrity.

Clearly this is entirely possible. After all, we really don't know how electricity works.

Referencing an imaginary being in the sky makes this "discovery" all the more credible, lol.

I wonder.....if he hooked up an H-OH ion kit to his car, would he increase the efficiency and mileage per gallon??

No need for such fanciful equipment when issuing fatwas to cars make them move themselves. Everyone knows this.

It sounds like the "stand-in minister for religious affairs, Khursheed Shah" is getting a cut from the investment scam.

The article you linked to is actually about how Pakistan's institutions have crumbled to the point where they took this thing seriously.

It shows “how far Pakistan has fallen into the pit of ignorance and self-delusion,” wrote Pervez Hoodbhoy, an outspoken physics professor, in The Express Tribune, a national English-language daily. He added: “Our leaders are lost in the dark, fumbling desperately for a miracle; our media is chasing spectacle, not truth; and our great scientists care more about being important than about evidence.”

While it's highly unlikely that there's even a skosh of truth to that...even if it WAS true, unless Chevron/Exxon can make money on it, there's not a chance that it would ever be released to the public.

You know that's what they said about the electric car. It was claimed that the big oil and car companies were in on a vast conspiracy to suppress any advancement and implementation of electric vehicles, yet the battery issues that plague the electric vehicle also affect essentially any piece of electronics that isn't plugged into a wall. We still haven't made significant advancements in battery tech -- minus some recent carbon/graphene talk that's still several years away at least.

Sometimes it isn't a conspiracy. Sometimes it just isn't feasible.

No its because the conspiracy is so big no human can wrap his head around it.

You keep on believing that. If "big oil" threw their (financial) weight behind the electric car technology, problems would be solved faster.

The oil companies and their lobbyists fight anything/everything that might cut into their profits.

I don't doubt we'd have made some advancements, but it's not like the mobile tech industry is exactly small, is it?

The oil industry throws millions each year on lobbying, but Congress isn't passing laws barring any sort of research. It's not a conspiracy, it's just really fucking hard, dude.

It also buries the true lead! Water, pfffft! There's a Pakistani engineer who has invented a car that runs on pious deeds! :awe:

If this were real, the headline wouldn't be "Car Runs On Water", it would be "Entropy Defeated; All Physics Utterly Broken"

While that would be pretty neat, I'm not holding my breath.
