Awesome, have fun with it. Don't forget to get current (final?) bios before swapping CPUs.

Should be solid, particularly considering the context of the system. The mobo will def be the limiting factor in OC. Hopefully 3.4ghz comes for ya.

It will help a little but you probably won't notice a difference. I wouldn't advise investing in DDR2 memory anyway. Save that money for DDR3 or a video card should you want a new one.

It would help a bit but probably not hugely. A lot of that 533 ram can do at least 667 speed, so give it a shot. Perhaps with a very small voltage bump you could get it to 800 stably. I emphasize 'small' voltage bump though.

Scan through this for a look at a bunch of 4200 ddr2 overclocks :

See if the chips on your sticks are the same or similar to any of those listed.

Systems are best upgraded piecemeal... with the only things that COULD go together being:
CPU + RAM + MoBo
and
GPU + PSU
and thats only sometimes (if what you currently have isn't good enough). Sometimes you can get just CPU, or just Mobo, or just RAM, or just GPU... etc.

anyways, the first thing i'd do is get a good SSD for boot and games and make your current spindle drive to storage.
then either go with the 95$ phenom upgrade suggested here.
If I had disposable income and wanted a faster upgrade... replace mobo, CPU, and RAM with an i5 build (faster than phenom x6 in games) or maybe even i7 IF you have the extra money you don't mind spending...

I just got a 1055t at the office. you know, b/c everybody needs 6 overclocked cores to look at spreadsheets and sign checks. anyway, I tried to go cheap-0 with an 890gx from foxconn (it was also ~ $100). first off, it didn't recognize the thuban. I contacted foxconn and they offered to send me a bios chip, but needless to say I wanted it working asap. I managed to scrounge up an athlon II x4 to flash the bios, but just in general it was a pita. almost any board that you get other than 890fx will not come with a thuban bios, so be prepared to deal with a major hassle here. then, my mobo had severely limited oc options. I finally just said screw it and sent it back, got this asrock 890 fx DELUXE 3. the asrock is awewsome, and was a good price at $150 imho. I got up to 3.5 on it before my pathetic ac freezer pro 2 convinced me that I was playing with fire, so I'm down to 13x258 now. I haven't tried to get ht over 258, however, and it's stable as "a rock" there...hehe, get it...never mind. Anyway, let me know if you get that mobo and I can help you with some of the settings, there are a TON of oc options on that thing!

An 890 Mobo that doesn't recognize Thuban? wow

I would do a bigger upgrade than that.
