are there any advantages in using the 890 chipset instead of 870?
I just got a 1055t at the office. you know, b/c everybody needs 6 overclocked cores to look at spreadsheets and sign checks. anyway, I tried to go cheap-0 with an 890gx from foxconn (it was also ~ $100). first off, it didn't recognize the thuban. I contacted foxconn and they offered to send me a bios chip, but needless to say I wanted it working asap. I managed to scrounge up an athlon II x4 to flash the bios, but just in general it was a pita. almost any board that you get other than 890fx will not come with a thuban bios, so be prepared to deal with a major hassle here. then, my mobo had severely limited oc options. I finally just said screw it and sent it back, got
this asrock 890 fx DELUXE 3. the asrock is awewsome, and was a good price at $150 imho. I got up to 3.5 on it before my pathetic ac freezer pro 2 convinced me that I was playing with fire, so I'm down to 13x258 now. I haven't tried to get ht over 258, however, and it's stable as "a rock" there...hehe, get it...never mind. Anyway, let me know if you get that mobo and I can help you with some of the settings, there are a TON of oc options on that thing!
