System in sig. Is it time for a new vid card, add memory, or jump to a 6 core with mobo and memory and see what this card can really do? I play crysis cod and race sims(iracing). like to stay close to cutting edge but have been spending cash on other things...LOL have about $800 to spend if necessary.

Any and all input welcome

Does the M2N Sli support phenom II X6? A 1055T overclocked would be a nice upgrade if ever.

I'd go with an (EDIT) Phenom II X6 or an i5 build and reuse the 260.

Total price should be around $700 for AMD and $800 for Intel just fyi.

Nice build 373, though I'd ditch the 8gb of 1066 for 4gb's of 2000 @ 7-10-8-24

Too outdated in the AMD motherboard naming scheme. But still, I'd go for a rebuild with an X6 1055T, OC the hell out of it, get a nice cheap AM3 board and just keep the GTX260. Davidh373's recommendation is good.

why not just pop a phenom II 940 in there>>>?
Many others have done it.

Even though ASUS does not officially support what we recently discoverd. I am proud to announce with the help of some pioneers that our mothoerboards will boot and run with the New AM2+ Phenom II CPU's. So incase your wondering yes your M2N Series motherboard will run happily with a new Am2+ Ph II cpu.
FTW

even in games that use over 4 cores an i5 750 quad would be faster in almost every case.

Why would he spend 700$ on a new system when he can upgrade to a Phenom II 940 for 95$? ANd It's a black edition to help with overclocking.

are there any advantages in using the 890 chipset instead of 870?

I just got a 1055t at the office. you know, b/c everybody needs 6 overclocked cores to look at spreadsheets and sign checks. anyway, I tried to go cheap-0 with an 890gx from foxconn (it was also ~ $100). first off, it didn't recognize the thuban. I contacted foxconn and they offered to send me a bios chip, but needless to say I wanted it working asap. I managed to scrounge up an athlon II x4 to flash the bios, but just in general it was a pita. almost any board that you get other than 890fx will not come with a thuban bios, so be prepared to deal with a major hassle here. then, my mobo had severely limited oc options. I finally just said screw it and sent it back, got this asrock 890 fx DELUXE 3. the asrock is awewsome, and was a good price at $150 imho. I got up to 3.5 on it before my pathetic ac freezer pro 2 convinced me that I was playing with fire, so I'm down to 13x258 now. I haven't tried to get ht over 258, however, and it's stable as "a rock" there...hehe, get it...never mind. Anyway, let me know if you get that mobo and I can help you with some of the settings, there are a TON of oc options on that thing!

I am not telling him to do that. I am saying that 6 cores from AMD are no better than a good quad for gaming.

This time next year AMD and Intel will have new sockets with new motherboards, and Bulldozer and Sanybridge CPU's,why not spend 95$ now and grab a real upgrade next year. A Phenom II 940 will be great for at least the next year.

So...I could actually sit on my dually right now and wait how long for the next socket to come out? then wait for the second or third build of motherboards to come out for stability on the new sockets? opps then i would have to get new memory......ect...LOL. how about building a stable and fast quad setup that would get me another couple of years of gamming?
