Low 210w High 270w

14a to 18a

So Low 210watt is 14A?

High 270w is 18A?

You do know that 12 watts = 1A right?

or is there some crazy math you tried to calculate this?

As I explained in my first calculation

80% on the 12v = 180w = 15a = 83% of the 12v.

I just didn't elaborate it that time. (my bad) You can't claim that 100% wattage is 12v and 80% is a good overestimate. Look at the xbitlabs figures. You're so bent on tearing down the numbers, you don't even see them for what they are. Good estimates on maximum numbers.

So why did you put up 14A instead of 15A for low? And all those components look like they run off 12volts.

Azn, Schmide (and everyone else involved in the OT PSU-related discussion) -

I don't know how this thread became a battleground for all of you to argue about PSUs, but we have a dedicated forum for that. If you continue to derail the OP's thread, you will be leaving this thread, whether voluntary or not.

it might be getting a little off topic but the basis of the debate is relevant to the thread. the ops psu is clearly a concern that has a bearing on his gpu choice.

If the OP is actually interested in the level of detail being argued about here re: PSUs, then I would ask him to start a new thread in the PSU forum.

If this thread hasn't been locked yet, I thought I wouild share that I have been running an ATI4670 512 mb card on a standard Dell 300W PSU since December. The Dell PSU has only 18A on the 12 volt rail and it seems to run just fine. Of course, I am only running a single hard drive, DVD burner, two sticks of ram and a C2D 7300. I went for the 4670 because it supposedly provided the best performance for the $ on a low powered system that lacked a PCI-E power connector. If the OP is moving up from a 6600GT, I think he wouild be pleasantly surprised by the performance of the 4670. It knocked the socks off my old 7900 GS that is now my son's system. And it is small enough to fit into the Dell Vostro 220 mini tower case.
AS for the nitpicking over power supplies, it seems like we should be able to agree that:
more power is better than less power and
higher qualiity is better than lower quality.
Sadly, more and higher usuallly applies to the dollars involved as well. And that is why AT has a hot deals forum so you can try to score a decent PSU that meets your needs.
If the OP wanted to gamble $70 or so on a 4670 and keep his existing system intact, including PSU, I think he would be very pleased with the performance.
