Personally, I think she has a natural eye for composition and is really just starting to learn. She's only had a camera for a few months. Here's just one particular shot (obviously with some post-editing):

here

here's the rest of her gallery

I keep trying to convince her to enter the monthly contest here. (Then again, as far as I know, she very well may have. I wouldn't have a clue what her online name was though. I know she came here when she was just starting and read a lot of the helpful information provided by others here. )

They are nice images - I say that because I don't really care for the heavy post processing.

I'm with OdiN and GoSharks. They're interesting, but I'm left wondering what she's trying to cover up with all the heavy effects.

Composition is very nice. However, with the amount of post-processing they look almost like airbrush paintings. Has she done much that doesn't rely on something like Photomatix?

They're nice images, that much is certain, but there's a heavy CGI look to them.

My own favorites are from a friend of mine, they're still pretty heavily processed, but they don't look processed. The overall look is the same as can be achieved with traditional film in a darkroom IMO. Obligatory link.

She seems to know how to take pictures.
She's got a good eye for balancing the colors and shapes in the image. Thats a skill which very few people without training possess and even some folks with training never seem to master.

But definately a bit heavy on the effects.

She's a newbie and likes playing with the effects. Good shots and composition though, like others have said. We all evolve our style.

Thanks for the comments - I'll pass them on to her. I'm not sure if that's her only gallery - I think many of those may have been her leaning toward a more artful creation. The swimming picture, and the guitar picture didn't appear too over-processed to me.

The thing with HDR images is that they look fake. We're used to photographs that have a limited dynamic range and its hard to make them appear real. However it is possible and Nikonians just had a contest for HDR photos where there were several very nice ones.

Personally, for my own photos, I specifically label any HDR images as I think its unfair to pretend something is not HDR when it, in fact, is. Here's the best one I've done. However, its also possible to increase tonal range a bit by just using filters. I actually feel like I've edited this photo a bit much, but apart from deepening the colors I didn't do too much to it.

my thoughts exactly. they looked a bit too CG-ish. composition-wise a lot of them i thought were fantastic. especially for a couple months

along with everybody else I think she has an excellent eye for composition and hopefully will move away from the heavy processing and try some other programs maybe

less is more sometimes but she's new and has the artist's eye

Nothing is more 'fake' than garish slide film like Velvia. I'll take the HDR images over hyper-saturated film anyday.
