I wouldn't go that far, but the important thing would be that you won't hate yourself at the end of the day.

If your considering healthcare, and are just entering undergrad, don't get locked into a specific degree just yet, just enter the college of arts and sciences and see what you like and how well you can do. If you have it in you to go to med school then that will probably be your best bet. Granted you will probably have to borrow a lot to go to med school, and you'll have to work for peanuts during residency but in the end it will be worth it. 10 years out of residency now and although I have loans to payback, the pay makes it worth it. And you have a much better chance to be your own boss.

I'm an engineer, and I'm going back to school so I can get into med school. FWIW, if you have an urge inside you to help people, then you won't be satisfied until you follow your heart.

It's funny, I often see people on this board rant about people who got into IT during the dot com boom just because it was "hot", and then you get threads like these were people recommend going into nursing for the very same reasons.

The difference is, there is a very real nurses crisis going on in the country. And it's only going to get much worse over the next few years.

I don't see how that changes the core of the issue: people getting into various lines of work for the wrong reasons.

To see if you might want to be a nurse, spend some time working as a CNA first. That should give you clue fairly quickly as to whether nursing/healthcare might be a potential career path for you.
