First, let me say that about the only things I know about cars is that they have 4 wheels & a place to put the gas.

I drive a little 4 cyl 2001 Hyundai Accent.
I was at the gas station yesterday and I noticed water leaking from under the engine. I popped the hood to see where it was coming from. Water was leaking out of a little hose poking out of the back engine wall (that wall between the dash and the engine). The hose is about 1" in diameter and shaped like an L. It pokes out of the middle of the wall (where the heater/AC is located on the inside), pokes out about 2" & then bends downward for about another 2". The funny thing is it looks like it just stops - like it doesn't go anywhere.

Any ideas?

Thats your heater core hose, VERY easy to replace, and should do them both for you should see 2 about the same size, next to each other. It can also just be loose, just tighten it up a little with a screw driver, get the car to nor temps, and see if it leaks again, if so just replace it. Go to the parts store, spend $20 on a Chiltons manual for your car, the hose(s) you need, and it will tell you step by step how to replace it saving you close to $150 at the dealer doing it yourself. Not to mention the feeling of self gratification you will feel knowing you worked on your car, thats priceless when its your first repair.

Yup. If it sounds like it's your AC dumping condensation. It's supposed to do that.

That would be my guess too but OP described the hose as 1" diameter so I think
Funboy's diagnosis is correct, heater hose. OP, as suggested, buy a manual and
think about replacing all the hoses, they are now 7 yrs old and probably need
changing anyway..

Unless its just a tube with no hose connected to it, just a open metal 1" drain, then it is the condensation drain tube. But if it comes out of the firewall with a rubber hose connected toit, and a hose clamp, then its your heater core hose(s).

Not likely, OP also said it just ends - does not go anywhere, just an open end pointing down. His radiator would be empy if that were for the heater core. Not to mention he said he saw water. Antifreeze looks markedlty different from water. It's the drain for the A/C.

I guess I was swayed by OP describing it as a "hose" but after re-reading
it must be the condensate drain, if a heater core hose came completely off
the entire cooling system would be pumped out in a few minutes.

I think it's the condensation/ AC thing. There's no hose clamp (on either end) on the little hose. Plus the radiator is still full (and it does look a lot different).
