have an old case with no documents and i need to know about installing the case connections for powerup, reset, harddrive led, and stuff but i dont know which wires go where.
red and white is usualy hard drive, blue and white reset, green and white 3 pin is usualy the power LED, orange and white is often the power on switch. But thats not neccesarily gonna be correct for every case.
Yes, definately. Need to get them both on the correct pins and in the right direction.
Edit: The functions should be printed on the back of the terminal connectors that come from the case and the functions should be stamped on the motherboard (but you may have to have a good magnifying glass or take the motherboard out of the case to see them).
This is where your motherboard manual really comes in handy. I don't think the polarities are stamped on the motherboard. If you can not find the manual you will have to try them one way then the other. GENERALLY, when you get them ALL correctly aligned on the pins, the function stampings on the back of the connectors will all be on the same side, either stamps on the outside of both rows or stamps all facing the same direction. But in any case all of the stampings on each row will all go in the same direction.
What was the brand of the motherboard ? Have you tried to search for the on-line manual ?
