Hey guys i have a coolermaster cm690 case and it came with 3-120mm stock coolermaster case fans but im thinking about changing them. Anyone know what are the best 120mm case fans with blue led or without led. ive been using some antec tricools led fans in my old case and there pretty good. but what else is good. heard that the noctua, Scythe S-FLEX and Yate Loon are really good fans also. thanks in advance.

people have always looked at me cross eyed but, I got some chrome look aluminum fans a few years ago that have been my favorite fans since. I also really like the scythe slipstream, good cfm to db ratios and they respond better to lowering the voltages than the s-flex's IMHO. The noctuas are good for air cooling but, don't have enough static force for being up against a radiator. yate loons are good mainly in the price/performance ration again, IMHO.

What I WOULD recommend:

D12SM-12 (medium)

IMO, the medium would be your best bet. High speed (though I haven't tried it) seems too loud. Low speed fan doesn't push enough air.

thats a perfect example of my point, that yate loon is just better than a 2:1 cfm to db ratio and is only 3.50.

Through teh same e-tailer a scythe slipstream is only slightly louder but offers nearly 3:1 cfmb and is $8.

Is the yate loon a better value, maybe, I think that depends on how well is scales to lower cfm and db levels with lower voltages. Which one is going in my next build? The Scythe.

It's always fun to look at the specs manufacturers give for fans. The Yate Loon 70.5 CFM at 33db. Well the db is correct, even over by 1db, but the CFM in reality is 54 as tested by silentpcreview.com. The Scythe S-Flex SFF21F is 70CFM at 31db, but then again, it's four times the price of the yate loons at the jab-tech store. And the Noctua NF-S12-1200 is 63CFM at 25db, which is over five times the price of the yate loons. I guess quality isn't cheap..

You should take a look at these two 120mm fan roundups at silentpcreview.com

then take a look at the prices if it's an issue.

I wished they'd test the slipstreams. I've had great luck with them to date and they're a whole yate loon less than the s-flexs.

I put 3 of these Arctic Cooling 1000 rpm 120mm Silent fans in the top and back of my CM690. These are exhaust fans only and seem totally silent. These would be especially good if you need to power them by the 12v molex (when you can't control the fans speed via mb/bios). My local NCIX store seems to sell cheap 120mm fans as a door crasher in their weekly sales. These were $3.99 when I got them. I also picked up 2 Antec Tri-cool for the bottom and cpu (Ultra 120 Ex) for $2.99 on sale (reg. $10). I like the Tri-cool, they go up to 2000 rpm via the switch and really push the air when needed...and seem quiet enough on the med. setting (1600 rpm). Any fan I put on the side panel whines real bad, so I don't use one there.

I am using Antec fans (4 of them) at the front of my case. They blow air right over the hard drives and onto the system. Also I have another 80mm fan on the side of the case, but it's an old black one that came with the case. It blows right ontop of the CPU HSF.

My quad runs mid 40's unless I'm running Prime95 like I am now. Current CPU temp while on the net and running Prime95 is right around 60. Hovers between 58 and 62.
