Hi,

I am upgrading a NAS box I built using NASLite-M2 (linux based). I had a Pentium III 600 MHz with 288 MB of RAM, and 3.1 TB's of storage.

I recently purchased the Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) that came with:

- Two AMD Opteron 200 cpu's (dual cpu motherboard, not dual core)
- 4GB of RAM

I just realized my fairly recent case (Antec 300) is too small for this large motherboard, and my Power Supply Unit (Seasonic SS-350ET 350W ATX12V) might be underpowered and incorrect for the new motherboard since the Tyan requires EPS12V PSUs.

The new motherboard has built in video, gigabit lan (2 ports), and the usual range of ports. I am looking at the Antec Eleven Hundred series case as a new case as it fits the Tyan motherboard, and getting a proper PSU as per the Tyan's requirements.

The breakdown of components inside the current system is/was:

- 120 GB IDE HD
- 500 GB IDE HD
- 500 GB IDE HD
- 2 TB SATA HD with PCI-X LSI 6 Port SATA MegaRaid 150 card (works on PCI as well)
- 4MB Video card (for initial setup, or if anything goes wrong and I need to see)
- Gigabit NIC/LAN card

Since this is strictly a NAS box running NASLite-M2 I really have no use for a high end video card.

I am wondering if a Seasonic M12II 520W EPS12V would suffice for my current requirements as well as adding one more 2TB SATA drive? If that size PSU is insufficient, I was thinking the next model up which is a Seasonic M12II 620W EPS12V.

Since this motherboard is EATX, would a XL-ATX PC Case work just as well, or are the cases that specific that I may run into issues with fitting? I do realize XL-ATX is larger, but I just want to be sure I make the right choice. I am looking at the Antec Eleven Hundred, Antec P280, or the Fractal Design Define XL Titanium E-ATX case. Thoughts between those three?

That is a lot of information, but I look forward to the help, and insight. Thank you, and I look forward to your replies

Thank you for your assistance and time. I decided to go with the Fractal Design Define XL Titanium E-ATX PC Case as it has sound dampening material throughout (and I like super quiet) and is rated highly for a quiet PC Case.

I also went ahead and purchased the Seasonic M12II 520W EPS12V, and that is more than enough power for what I require, especially since there's no power hungry GPU

Cheers

Thank you. The Fractal case is a much bigger case than I am used to, but the 10 HDD capacity will be beneficial down the road.

Now the only thing I am wondering is if I should upgrade to NASLite-M2 x64 that will takes use of the Dual CPU's.

On a side note, I noticed that the Tyan motherboard actually can take 32GB of ram (8 slots)... but at the time of printing the largest PC-3200 DDR sodimms were 2GB... I now see that Viking made a single 4GB sodimm for servers... the possibilities are endless

I was looking at an Antec Atlas 550W or Antec Titan 650W for my server case but both of those are a bit dated now.
