Case ventilation

I think i hate my case. My winchester 3500+ hovers around 55C on load, but side panel open it never hits 45C! Thats a big drop IMO. Comments?

Mine fluctuate about 2-4c with side off.

Yes it will cause a big difference in temp, because the heat can get out allot better, because it does not have to exit from a fan.

lol, i have my case cooled so well, opening the side panel actually screws up the temps

it used to make a huge difference with my old coolermaster cavalier. now with my antec ninehundred with every fan on low it doesn't even change.

If your case has adequate and balanced cooling, opening the side case should make very little difference in temps.

To expand on what rogue1979 said ..... if your case has good airflow, removing the side panel can actually raise temps because the warmed air is not being drawn away as efficiently.

Now, if you want to remove the side panel & use a 120V table fan to cool the insides like I do, that is another story alltogether.

As others have said, proper air flow through a case can actually be better than an open case. I've finally got mine working like it should. CPU temps drop slightly if I open the side panel, but the chipset temps go up. This is due to the fact that the fan on the chipset is so small, it really can't circulate its own air (unlike my Big Typhoon which gulps as much as it can get)... Hard drive temps also are better with the case closed, because it forces air to go across them rather than out the sides.

So I have improper case cooling then.. Thank god the situation isn't the same with all cases

My case. Its small, heavy and hot, but rather quiet.. There are no holes to attach more fans.

Try a high 120mm CFM fan as your rear exhaust to help move the hot air out.

Time to break out the dremel!

Very few cases come stock with the proper amount of intake and exhaust, and the ones that do usually have too many fans and are way to loud for me. Balanced airflow works better then brute force from a bunch of loud noisy fans.

I would like to OC a bit, but the 150Mhz extra on the stock volts just doesn't seem to be worth the trouble. If i up the volts even a little, the CPU gets 61-62C on load.
What im worried is the system HDD which sits at 60C basically all the time.
How should i position my 80mm fan? There are plenty of room beneath and above the HD as its mounted on the 3rd 5.25" bay from the top. There are 4 bays total and my optical drive is on the topmost bay. The only exhaust is the PSU fan in the back corner.

I have a thermaltake tsunami and was curious if anyone knows if I can remove the fan in the side window and make it an exhaust?
Currently it has a front 120 mm intake, a side ~92mm intake and a rear 120mm exhaust. Wouldn't it be better to exhaust as much of the air as possible?

Way to thread jack you jerk.. create a topic yourself.

To OP your case does not seem to have much upgrade options, you should bust out a dremel and cut out holes for fans, especially the rear exhaust

OP, sorry if I tried to ask a slightly off topic in your thread. I just figured there were some knoledgable people in here commenting on proper air flow and it reminded me to ask my question. Again, sorry.

Tlkki that Nexus breeze seems to be marketed more around a quiet office case than high performance. The higher cfm fan on the intake like has been suggested is about all u can do for now, b4 u bring out the dremel.
plus at the bottom of their website it reads...

For the best possible performance of your Nexus Breeze case it is wise to regularly clean the aluminum fan filter. How often you should clean the fan filter is dependant on the conditions of your environment.
I'm guessing u have checked that

Same here, temps fo up about 3 degrees, on the board at least, the rest of the system is watercooled

With 120 mm fans on the intake and exhaust, my CPU is 1-2 C cooler with the case closed, which is new to with my PCs, also an intake fan on the side over the CPU helps a lot by ensuring the CPU gets cool outside air.

Thx for all the replies. Ive been thinkin and the next case im buying is going to be a little more performance oriented than this one. I got a 80mm fan blowing on the hot HD and its not hitting 60C anymore, so im pretty content now.

Ill leave the overclocking for later when i have the case to cool my cpu down.

My temps don't change much if at all by opening the case panel, except my chipset would run warmer.

My case temps dropped 6-8C with side open, but nearly 17C with dual Vantec Tornados on the back exhausting air. So airflow IS more important.
