Any suggestion for a case that holds 12 hard drives ?

I've seen the lian pc-a75 for around $170 which seems ok from the specs. Also I'm intrigue by some of these 3 5/14 to 4 3 1/2 bays but most of them seem to have crappy hot swap interfaces (crappy is the problem); i would be ok if they dropped the hot swap interface but kept the 120mm fans.

as another alternative you could go with a esata or usb3 hard drive docking station also check that internally they run on a sata 3 bus ..a lot tend to only run sata2... look around the net you should find one... other wise just build a small build computer with an adequate case with enough hard drive storage space the mobo and processor don’t need to be high end and Ethernet into it ...use it as like a server..if you want to save money use linux as an op system or get a copy of xp it will do fine..oh ok i just looked up your case there and yes it looks fine i may have misinterpreted your question..but never the less that case you suggested looks great.. if its for your build..i would look at an ..antec..df-85...another excellent choice....on the df 85 you can take off the hot swap adaptors with two screws..its that easy...

has 2x 4x stata backplanes = 8 drives. 4 on each one. most likely sata II and I

I think sata 3 work but at sata 2 speeds.

I replaced it with this

I am considered a reseller on this site and can't sell gear. But they have allowed me to give gear for shipping price on the free stuff page.
my zip is 07731.

the gear i have has no raid card like this one

I thank you for the kind offer but it doesn't really meet my needs. As an fyi I run software raid2 with checksum blocked for data integrity. I kind of want to keep it to one box since I use this system for general usage (pretty much everything but games). While it is a nice case it (one of those towers that BB was dumping a few years ago for $40); the drive bay system is not that great and is limited to 6 drives.

I think my best bet is to consider the pc-a75[6] or go with one of those 5 1/4 converters like the fellow above linked.
-
I wouldn't mind a fast non-raid sata card (maybe something like this

LSI LOGIC LSI00182 SAS3801E-R 8 Port 3Gb/s SAS PCI-Express

oh well. Don't want to sink too much money into this project.

Sorry for the confusion in the original question. I was either looking to replace my current case or somehow to expand it to hold more drives. I like to keep the system to a single box (easier to manage) and I'm a fan of linux/software raid (brtfs/zfs).

Anything more than about 6 SATA drives and you are in server territory. I think maybe we need a forum for building servers. Most casual gaming computer builders probably are not that knowledgeable about servers. So we need a forum section to divert these kind of questions to.

I ended up with the pc-a75 for $130 shpped (it's an ok case at $130) and this controller:
IT Mode LSI 9211-8i SAS SATA 8-port PCI-E 6G
-
for $115. Havent' received the controller yet but will make a final post after I test it out and confirm it is an official LSI product (didn't link it because I'm not sure if we are allowed to link ebay items)
