I've noticed that, freaking scary stuff. What's even more scary is if Google can do that, then what stops more malicious parties from doing it too? I really hate how our tech is coded with zero privacy in mind these days to allow such code to even execute. It is in theory possible to have this technology available to us, without infringing on our privacy, the problem is that no one is coding it that way because there's too much money in selling private information, and somehow this is legal. Well the government tracks our every move too so why would they make it illegal. We live in a scary world really.
Yeah I've been watching the Switch to Linux YouTube channel where Tom there goes on rants about this sort of thing. That's how I find out about it. He also mention that Amazon is planning on doing the same thing.

I've also learned about Facebook's Shadow Accounts they have been keeping on people who don't use it as well.

I disagree, using cash will help keep you on a budget while with DC/CC it is very easy to spend more then you planned on.

just the opposite ime. ccs's create an instant record of all of my spending, and I track it weekly. Everything is there for me to see, all the time, and I know exactly what money I have, where it is, and where it went. Plus, you get the cash back and/or travel rewards...so it's almost like making money.

There was some talk about eliminating big denomination bills in the EU ($500) and US ($100). Did the Swiss (planning) to kill their largest bill not too long ago? In the name of "public safety" and "fighting terrorists".

Germans and Austrians love to pay in cash - https://qz.com/617499/au-revoir-e50...is-about-to-ditch-its-highest-value-banknote/

Bad guys will find a way. They were using eBay to move money around.

It isn't for "terrorists", despite their claims. It's to lock tighter, the governmental irons. Everything done will be open to scrutiny by the government, and their close allies, the corporations. Your entire life will be lived at the pleasure of those two. When they tire of you, it can all be taken away at the flick of a switch.

Yeah I don't trust the motives of those who want to eliminate cash myself, especially banks and credit card companies.

Totally agreed. It is worrisome to hear about chips to be implanted into humans, NSA surveillance, DNA/gene editing, IoT, big corporations snooping on consumers, and other scary stuffs from Big Brother.

1984/Brave New World indeed.

Yeah the future as far as this stuff goes is scary and it will get harder and harder to get away from it. It is government/corporations' goal to have full total control over us, and they are slowly achieving that. They don't even have to try hard because most consumers are idiots or simply don't care. "ooo smart fridge I can see my food with my phone, I need to buy this!". Yeah, it probably has a mic and various other sensors too. But then even if people were to stop buying "smart" things they just need to make the non smart versions no longer available. GL trying to buy a non smart TV these days.

Even things like nest are kind of scary because they all link back to a mothership. There is now a record of when you are and are not home, which can then be used against you in various ways such as to do something malicious to your house, or to be used against you in the court of law to frame you.

No penny here, they got rid of it years ago.

What I'd really love to see is that the listed price on something is the actual price you pay. None of this BS of tacking on the taxes and other fees at the cash. It should be built into the price. If an item is listed at $25, it should cost you $25. The tax and other fees would still be shown on the receipt for accounting purposes. If you are native with a status card then you just get a 15% discount.

I love cash, but wish we could get rid of the damned penny already!

IIRC, there was a talk about remove the pennies and the lowest coins would be the nickel but it did not work because the voters would not want a 5% sale tax increase but 1% or so would not be so bad. Human nature.

So what is the lowest denomination coin in Canada? 5 cents?

So how do you guys do sale tax increase? 5%? Would not work down here in the States. And how do you determine if you are a native? I remember when people claimed to be natives came out of the woodwork when oil was found in native land and the big money off native casinos.

Yes, 5 cents.

Ideally its rounded to the nearest number. If its $1.01 then it would be $1.00. If its $1.03 it would be $1.05. Of course that implies people are doing business in the honest way and in business that's questionable.

Yeah it's 5c. Basically if the price is like 1.98 then you pay 2.00 or if it's 1.96 you pay 1.95. Round up/down depending on what is closer.

What sucks they they recently increased the prices at Tim Hortons - capitalism at work, not making enough profit? Just raise prices! So before a large used to be about 1.90, and I'd give the person $2.00 and tell to keep the change. Now with new prices it comes up to 2.00. Lot of employees are now getting screwed over in tips because of that. They did raise minimum wage to $15 so there's that.

Funny, I got a few Canadian pennies in change here, south of your border. Nobody down here wants them either. Maybe they'll be valuable, if you guys phased them out.

It's funny as US pennies often found their way in our change too. They were just treated like normal pennies lol. I still have lot of pennies but keep them now. I don't presume they'll ever be worth much as everyone is probably going to have a jar full, but kinda neat to keep anyway given they arn't in circulation anymore.

I regret not keeping 2 dollar bills as a kid or any of the older money in general. As a kid I even told myself I should keep a few, but I spent it on candy instead.
