around 7 pm tonight, I went to 2 Best Buys, Circuit City and 2 Wal-Marts looking for a blu ray copy of Casino Royale...all of 'em were sold out...I live in North Dallas if that makes a difference...when they looked at the inventory of the stores around the areas, most of the other ones were sold out as well...

another thing i noticed was that there more shelf space for blu ray movies than hd dvd movies in all of these stores...

so much for the death of blu ray...

I posted a link in that 'hd dvd vs blu ray' thread and it ain't lookin pretty for hd dvd...

no major releases for awhile on hd dvd while the blu ray release schedule is going to have some potential blockbusters...blu ray is outselling hd dvd 2 to 1.

Also, Casino is the first high def dvd to break the top 10 on amazon's sales list...

When I went to BB & CC today looking for God of War 2, they were both fully stocked with Casino Royale on Blu Ray.

Agreed. Screw Blu-ray. I just bought an HD-DVD drive. What are some good HD-DVD movies worth buying?

A 2 to 1 sales margin really isn't that great, considering the hardware advantage blu-ray has with the ps3

Im definitely not a major Bond fan, and I havent seen all of them, but this one was one of my favorites.

Just too bad about the car, and that he really only used it for 5 minutes, the older car (Aston?) was especially nice also.

I kinda lean toward the HD-DVD side, but I eventually plan on getting a PS3. But then again, its not like a have a HDTV anyway.

i've never been a bond fan, and after this one, im still not. the poker scenes were uninteresting, the villain was a pussy (nothing is menacing about a guy with an asthma inhaler), and the last hour of the movie had no flow.

Are all the movies out on Blu Ray actually higher quality, or are they just transfers from the DVDs?

anyone with common sense can realize that blu ray is most likely going to win the war at this point.

casino royale on blu-ray broke the top 10 selling dvds by the way(at #9). There wasn't one hd dvd in the top 100(and hasnt been for weeks).

Wow, anyone with common sense huh. Just because there are a lot of Blu-ray players out there because of PS3 does not mean that Blu-ray is going to win. This format war will be a long drawn out war, with neither side conceding to the other. The studios that support each format is going to battle to the death. So, just because Blu-ray broke the top selling dvds does not mean anything. HD-DVD has not been releasing new movies for awhile. Tell me where you can get a $200 Blu-ray player, then we'll talk.

If anything, it's only going to get larger. People keep on saying how the PS3 is selling so poorly in the console war, but it's a great advantage with the HD war. Add to that the numbers are highly favoring BR this month with the new titles coming out (none on HD DVD), along with cheaper standalone players for BR around the corner, and you're looking at things that are seriously helping BR.

Whoever makes it to the $250-$300 plateau first will win. PS3 or not, $300 or so is the critical price point for many, many buyers. A 2:1 advantage on what is out now is a drop in the bucket compared to what the market will be when either of these technologies hits the mainstream.

When taking into consideration HD-DVD with the 360, you get onto a much more level playing field with the PS3. $599 for the 360 combo (not taking into account Hot Deals) and $499 or $599 for the PS3. This will be even more level when the PS3 finally has a decent game library and Home (as opposed to the game lineup being crap right now and on-line not comparing to Live).

I'm going to assume that the people using the HD-DVD drive for their computers and HTPC is going to be a rather small majority of sales (although I could be very wrong on this, I really haven't seen any surveys or data on it).

If the Chinese manufacturers start ramping up production on cheap BR players and have firmware that's capable of being hacked for the region code, it's going to be a close race. For the price point, HD-DVD has the decided advantage right now.
