No virii according to my scans.

Wow really no controller support? I think you are better off getting "Konami Collector's Series Castlevania & Contra" instead if that is the case.

Edit:

Just went and found mine (still sealed in the original box). I picked it up at Staples in their clearance bin for $2 about 8 years ago. I havn't opened it mainly because I have a working NES and own almost all the games that are in it (Castlevania, Castlevania II, Castlevania III, Contra, Jackal... just missing SuperC on the NES).

I've been on the look out for a Symphony of The Night remake/update.

2 was pretty much the precursor to SoTN. But, I could never get into it.

Er, that site looks to have a lot of "full" games for "free". Is it just a piracy site? Shows Dawnguard and Surgeon Simulator as free. Just click and download :|

This guy basically took the words out of my mouth. Oddly enough I really like the metroidvania game style that's in SOTN and the ones like it, but in Simon's Quest it's just awful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aip2aIt0ROM

apparently I have to sign in to watch that? weird. (also--that is something i am never doing, ever: signing into youtube to watch something, lol)

anyway, I have a soft spot for Simon's Quest. played the shit out of it when it came out and is probably in my top 5 of NES games for me. Also loved Castlevania III (probably more than SQ), Metroid, and especially SoTN and Super Metroid.

I do believe I recently tried playing an emulated SQ some years back, and couldn't get into it--certainly feels way too grindy and silly to me now, but it was unlike any other game at the time for me.

Sign in? That's weird. Maybe it was flagged as 'adult' since there's cursing.

Yeah, this is a weird game to have nostalgia for. I had it as a kid and it had all sorts of problems. It was the worst nes game we owned, even worse than Zelda 2.

SoTN is one of my favorite games ever. It was to 2D what Half-Life was to 3D...just a great game, great story, all around awesome

Same here. I still keep my PS around just to play SOTN and a few others every few years. SOTN and Super Metroid are my favoritest console games ever.

Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest was my favorite Castlevania by far. I played it so much, I could speed run it in minutes.

I keep seeing references to SoTN. What is that?

Edit: Zelda 2 got hate too? That was my favorite Zelda game too. I played that game through multiple times as a kid. I guess they have similar styles, so if you disliked one, you would dislike both.

I greatly enjoyed simon's quest- it was something special and unique when it was released. Secrets, puzzles, RPG aspects, it really had some interesting and different features.

The other castlevania games never interested me as much, as they just felt like "standard" NES games- there were a million of them all with the same formula design- batman, ninja gaiden, robocop, contra... dozens of others- just simple side scroll games with occasional power-ups that drop from torches or whatever.

SotN is Symphony of the Night.

CV2 is definitely a mixed bag. It had potential, but so many issues it's hard to get nostalgic over it. Rapid skip text - except the text you'd actually want to skip. Clues that I couldn't tell if they were bad translations or intentional lies. The messed up ending text where the good ending got the bad end's text, confusing me to no end.

Castleroids are typically a mixed bag. SotN was great - until the inverse castle, where all thoughts of balance simply went straight out the window. Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance were kind of meh. Aria, Dawn and Portrait were all pretty good, and Ecclesia was decent.

Kind of wish they make a proper console or PC one CVroid again. It's pretty much been a mobile only thing since SotN.

I always assumed they were lying to me. It took me a while to realize that people were intentionally trying to deceive you, but I kind of liked that. It made it feel less gamey that way. Plus it was one of the first open world games I had played in that style, where it wasn't broken out into separate levels.

I haven't played any newer Castlevania games, so I don't have any opinions on them. I played Castlevania 1 many times, but never was able to finish the game. I always got stuck on Frankensteins Monster. I could get to him without losing any health, and lose every life on him every time. Maybe I can try again someday.

I enjoyed circle of the moon on GBA. I never understood everyone's love for SOTN, I thought Castlevania 4 on Snes was better. I also liked 3 on NES.
Heres a horrid memory for everyone. Castlvania 64 on N64 *shutters*

Yeah I forgot about that Castelvania 2 hack version. I had been meaning on making a cart for it, but I have an Everdrive N8 which lets me play just about anything homebrew (or even most regular ROMs, but I own just about everything worth-while except for a small handful on original carts).

I think my last official count was ~180 NES games, and I mean decent ones, not a crap load of all the el-cheap-o sports carts that are worth like $0.10. Only notable ones that I am missing are Battletoads (I played the hell out of it as a kid, but it is of the ultimate hard as hell games, and I never could get much farther than the 4-5th stages, so I never bought it), Ghosts ‘N Goblins (much like Battletoads, just hard as hell), Metal Storm, and Ducktales 2.
