I had a horrible experience with the 14.1 on my R9 290 - BF4 crashes and wouldn't run Tomb Raider - so I went back to the regular drivers, I'll wait a little before checking out this new Beta Driver, see what the general feedback will be. So keep posting results!

Can't wait to try it at home. 14.1 was so much more responsive, but the stuttering made it unusable for me. If this fixes that it'll be a winner.

Tried start of SP Singapore mission with max settings 4xMSAA

And with both Mantle and Directx I got ~69 fps. So basically no difference. Same results in a quick run in mp.

Will it be necessary to use Display Driver Uninstaller before updating to 14.2 from 13.12?

Thanks for posting your knowledge of a calender. The point is you don't have the option of Mantle with Thief, today. Which is what you seem to be insisting.

The driver is ready for Thief. The game being ready is a different topic.

Faster than Titan SLI too, I'd bet.

Maybe??? Not likely in Win 8.1 though.

Thanks for the links. All of the other Mantle threads have been locked, including yours, AFAIK.

BF4 still crashes like crazy with 14.2 and fps average isn't any better but the random stuttering is gone.
Will it be necessary to use Display Driver Uninstaller before updating to 14.2 from 13.12?

well it looks like this driver update fixed my problem of having to restart after a cold boot up so im happy

Oh, looks like they fixed the stuttering, this will make me *SOOOOOO* happy

Cannot wait to test it tonight.

Makes me wish i was still running my multi GPU setup to see the improvement increase or maybe I should just get another card! lol

Were you playing on a 64 player server? An empty server will play just like single player in my experience, very GPU limited. But on 64 player servers, I see a huge boost in mantle.

1.0 GCN cards performance under mantle ranges from OK (as in, 0-10% uplift compared to DX11 path) to phenomenal (50%+ gains if you are cpu bound). There are like 2 o 3 places in all the vanilla maps that show 0% scaling on GCN 1.0 on Mantle compared to DX 11., being in A node from Shangai looking to post-levolution C node with 90 FOV is one special case when I see really zero gains on mantle, while on the rest of said map the gains are outstanding.


What worried a lot of people now is fixed, as now you get identical fog and color grading in both paths, and performance with Mantle on this patch is the same or even better than on the last one, guess what would be the new fudster move to downplay mantle now? :whiste:


PD: If your game is crashing right when the load screen ends, check to erase the ui.drawenable 1 from your user.cfg with notepad. That fixed it for me (was already on the verge of blaming the new beta drivers for that one, lol).

What did you expect with x4 msaa and max settings? You're clearly gpu limited.

Honestly, I had no idea what to expect

The general consensus is that for the time being, the greatest benefit is in CPU bound situations, with GPU bound situations seeing very little if any noticeable improvement. This is why you are not seeing much difference.

Downloading for when I get home. We'll see how good mining is with these too. How do you force BF into using Mantle if you have theses drivers installed, and how do you change it back to DX?

You got to enter the game, the very first video setting is Render path or something like that, set it to Mantle instead of DirectX 11. Then close the game and rejoin the server you were playing.

I still have stuttering on my 7850, it might be slightly less or could be the same. It's playable but still have a random stutter or two throughout the game.

imput render.drawscreeninfo 1 on the console, now this command lets you see VRAM usage. If you are topping your VRAM usage (according to repi, Mantle is currently using more VRAM compared to DX11), it might explain that you are still getting that random stutter once in a while.

PS: Would be lovely if repi still lurks around this forum, to confirm what these (apparently) new in game commands actually do:

thread.processorcount (default is -1, so I guess driver handles it like the rest of the commands set in -1?)
thread.jobthreadpriority (default is again -1)
thread.minfreeprocessorcount (default is 0)
thread.maxprocessorcount (default is 5 for me)

With default settings drawscreeninfo tells me I currently have 4 Job threads (if I remember correctly, there were 2 main threads, the rest being job threads). Im on a 8320, so that would leave 2 unused threads. Would be lovely if we can get a clearer picture of what those commands do and if you can tune them further beyond defaults for even more performance
