Hey guys, I mainly lurk here and don't post very often, but I felt the need to with this. A friend of mine's daughter has a cat that's less than a year old who decided to jump out of a 2nd story window and severely broke her leg. His daughter has recently lost her job and can't afford to pay for the $2000 surgery. I'm a huge animal lover who has several cats so it really hit home with me. If you can donate any small amount it would be wonderful.

You can donate at the url, read more about the cat, see xrays of the leg, and she has also taken pictures of the vet's surgery estimate so you can tell it's not some sort of scam. Thanks for any help.

I wasn't planning on donating but I clicked the link anyhow, saw the picture and story, and I had to throw a couple bucks in. Get better little Samoa. :\

OMG, this is so sad. I love cats too, I had a cat named "Nemo" for 5 years and then I went off to College and he was fine Freshman year but at the beginning of Sophomore year he developed Kidney Disease and there wasn't much they could do for him.

When I get paid on the 25th, I'll throw something in the pot for Samoa.

So don't pay for it full at once but over time like they will let you do.

If you can't pay a bit every month then there is something wrong here.

Screw that.

Cats are euthanized every day. Just euthanize that one, and save a different one by adopting one that would've been euthanized otherwise.

Save money without changing the one dead cat/one live cat in a loving home situation.

A lot of places do not allow billing. The clinic I work for does not.

As for the kitty, ouchie that is a bad break. best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Looks like she is making good progress.

The cat is apparently in surgery now as well.

Yeah, I got 3 days for mentioning that I accidentally ran over a kitten. Some mod or other here's got a soft spot for cats.

Well...maybe I did mention something about having to swerve to make sure I hit it, but everyone knew I was joking right?

TFP was trolling. Dirigible is just being economical.

Yup.

TFP was being directly and intentionally hurtful to the person who lost a pet, if memory serves (and I may not have the details right). That is just mean, and I would never do that intentionally.

In this case, it is not the OP's cat. It is his friend's daughter's cat. She may have an emotional bond with the cat, but I suspect the OP doesn't have much of one, if he has one at all. And I can't imagine the others in this thread have one either.

From the viewpoint of the total benefit to cats in general, my suggestion is just as good as getting that specific cat surgery, and saves money that could be used for other important things.

Send money to help a starving child in Africa, for example. Do that and (a) cats in general are no worse off, and (b) humans in general are better off. Or if you really like cats, give to your local animal shelter or SPCA so that cats taken as a whole are better off.

I can't imagine spending that much money to save an animal.

So wasteful.

Thanks to everyone who donated. The vet agreed to do the surgery without full payment and to work out a payment plan. The surgery was a success! The generosity of random people is amazing. Thank you guys again.

Would you spend that much on a child?

Why is it so different if it's a cat? It's still a living creature that is a member of the family.

Some view it differently I suppose.

I had to make the decision to put down my 20 year old cat yesterday and it devastated my whole family. He'd been there the kid's entire lives. Since I was a teenager. I'll admit I was teared up quite a while with no feeling of shame.

I've had about 6 cats and dogs that lived to be 18 or older. Of course you spend money on them when they're hurt.

I'm sure your insurance company says that every time they have to pay out a claim to maintain your miserable little life.

Most vets require payment in full upon services being rendered. In this case, they agreed but that doesn't always happen.

One of my cats cost $1,500 to fix. Small price to pay for a friend, and if he lives to a reasonably full age, it'll be about $150 a year, or $12.50 per month, or 41¢ a day. A pittance...
