Would you spend that much on a child?

Why is it so different if it's a cat? It's still a living creature that is a member of the family.

Because a child is a child and a cat is a cat.

A cat is a pet, a child is a person.

And both are members of a family. Stop being such an ass.

I don't understand that sentiment as it relates to any pet.

My family had dogs, cats, pigs, ducks, hampsters, fish, etc, etc, growing up and I never felt like any of them were at all part of our family.

Did I?

The way I see it, it's one less thing I have to worry about and spend money on. One less thing to be concerned about if I kick the bucket tomorrow.

Hmmmm.

Pets have this knack of being there for you when you're sick and not feeling well, making you smile when you come home from a dreary day at the office, and just being good company. Just like real people but in some ways better since most SO's won't roll up into a little ball and snuggle with you for 8 hours straight...on a regular basis. I think you're really missing out. You should stop worrying about the money. Overall pets are very cheap and money is not an issue. So you spend $2000 on a vet bill every 10 years or so. That's less than a dollar a day.

Why am I not surprised that this thread went in this direction? I doesn't take long before a debate surfaces, regardless of the topic.

I'm glad to hear that the kitty's surgery was successful!

You know, I used to have the exact same mentality as you do now.

Then I met my girlfriend's dog, and my whole opinion on pets changed. She has a little, chubby cockapoo that has more personality than a lot of humans I know. He also has just as many feelings as some people I've met. For example, my girlfriend was going through a rough patch with her family; her dog knew she was sad, and would sit in her lap and lick her tears and keep her company (I'd even say that he... looked concerned, if that's possible). Another example comes from when she was physically sick (food poisioning): He would sit next to her when she threw up, then sit near her against her stomach. He did this all night and into the next day while she was sick; never left her side (except to go out and eat). He's not even my dog and I love him.

Like I said, I really used to have the exact same mentality as you, but I've changed. I never had real pets growing up because my mom was allergic to pretty much everything, and I never wanted a dog. Now, though, I do.

This gofundme.com website gives me the creeps... there is absolutely nothing from a total scammer setting up some of that stuff. Some of it I totally understand but people requesting money for a wedding/honeymoon? Don't have the money... DON"T GET MARRIED! jeez makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with people...

Also makes me wonder how much of it is really true or actually used for the purposes, I could see some skeemers out there very easily coming up with some photo's or a convincing story and stealing your dollars...

Despite my grumpy posts earlier, I'm glad the goal was met and surgery done. All the best to you, your daughter, and your cat. Many years of health to you all!
