Your cat will eat Tuna, but in the long run, it is nto good for it.
You can mix some Tune with a little dry cat food and slowly change the raito till you have all cat food and no tuna. teh reason they should not just eat tuna is because it lacks certain vitamines and minerals, so long term it is not that good for kitty.

Although I don't *think* the original poster suggested it, cats CANNOT live on a vegetarian diet.

It WILL kill them in about 12 weeks, and those last few you will have a very unhappy cat. *We* are omnivores, we eat meat and veggies, so taking a lot of diet supplements you can get by as a veggie human. Cats are stricly carnivores. Sure, they CAN eat veggies - *some*, many veggies humans eat just fine are poisonous to casts - but they cannot live off of them.

You brought a tiny predator into the house. Deal with the fact that it eats meat.

Wrong, believe it or not, I saw this crazy japanese show where the cat was eat, cucumber, and cantelope... really weird.

Actually, i take that back, I think they just train the cat to eat certain veggies and fruit... I believe the cat won't live long if they don't eat meat/protein.

thanks for the replies, I DON'T expect my cat to eat veggies, all I am saying is that I can't cook chicken, fish or something like that... dry cat food was fine, trouble is i DON'T get it anymore! that's why I was looking for alternatives... Cats are not popular pets in India, most people just keep dogs... oh well...

Yes, after awhile they will eat 'anything', but cats have to have some meat in their diet or they will get pretty sick and eventually go blind. Dogs actually can tolerate a 100% veggie diet, though I'm sure they would prefer not to.

One of our cats is a Maine my excellent compatriot (not sure if this is characteristic of the breed) and he LOVES fruits and veggies, will eat green beans, broccoli, asparagus, cucumber, watermelon, other melons, strawberries, etc., he is just crazy for them like a cat would be for tuna or something!

You can't cook it, but can you open a can of it? I'm not clear on the dietary laws. Can you find an online pet food (or grocery) company that will ship to India?

I forgot, try feeding them some roast beef.

There were some strays that were loitering around one of the local Arby's, and people would go in to buy a regular roast beef sandwich and just give it to the kittens.

Hmmm, I sure could use a big montana now... too bad it's almost midnight here.

Your cat won't eat, huh? Hmm.

I do not like green eggs and ham
I do not like them, Sam I Am
I do not like green eggs and ham

I am cat, a picky creature
Kill me on live TV
Make it a double feature

For I am a cat
Evil to the core
Kill me now; nail my carcass to the door

Well, I'd say your cat is talking to you.

Yeah. I know that cats will eat veggies, and plant matter is an important part of a cat's diet. They do need vitamins, minerals and fiber that meat cannot provide.

However, they also need proteins that plant matter can't provide. Well, it could.. but for some reason I can't imagine a cat munching on some soy protein.

Feed him tuna or some sort of Soy extract. I am sure he will get around eating it. You may also want to consider uncooked fish.
Aside....your cat is probably harvesting the local wildlife around your home in which case you do not need to worry about feeding him.

Try going somewhere else to get another bag of the food. Then when you are close to being done with that bag, buy a little bag of another food. Gradually mix the foods together. Use about a 75% old food/ 25% new food mix for about 3 days, then increase it to about 50/50 for another 3 days. Next increase it to about 25%old food/ 75% new food for another three days. By the end you should be able to switch the kitty off the old food completely. Doing it slowly allows for kitty's tummy to adjust to the new food. If the kitty starts getting sick, then maybe lessen the amount of new food you put in the bowl for a while.

If the cat doesn't like the new food, then at least you are only out a few bucks.

I just had to switch my kitty out of kitten food and into adult cat food. She got sick twice, but the mixing idea works really well, and she likes her new food.

You're going to have to try different cat foods until you find one your kitty likes. It's not healthy for them to stop eating, and it's not healthy to feed them only tuna or veggies.
