My GF and I are moving into a new townhome that is 2 bedroom 2.5 bath and we are trying to decide where to put the litter box. Just looking for ideas from other cat owners as to where you keep yours.

Don't put it on carpet. It's a pain to keep clean, and if the cats miss the box (sometimes they do) you don't want urine-stained carpet. Tile, concrete, etc. is best in my experience.

I keep mine in my basement for a lot of reasons. 1) It gives the cat privacy 2) It keeps it out of the main house 3) It's easy to clean. Cats are really weird about their litter box. Some cats will spray if they don't feel they can go to their litter box without distraction.

I personally wouldn't recommend putting it in the bathroom, but that's often the best location for a lot of people. I also used to put it in the laundry area as it has a tile floor.

OK, creepy, but I am guessing you are kidding. *smirk*

We keep ours in a corner of the living room right outside the kitchen, but then again we live in a condo, so spce is limited. We used to have it in the bathroom in our apartment in college.

I notated one area of the kitchen. Jut not sure yet.

IMO, there isn't really an optimal location with that plan. It would be great if you could open up the patio and simply put it in the storage, but that might get too hot and cause all sorts of other problems.

The kitchen might be ok if you keep it absolutely clean at all times, because any odor will quickly permeate your entire floor.

You see my issues, I agree there is nowhere optimal at all.....sigh... I dont want it in the Kitchen, i dont want it in the living room, I dont want it in the bathrooms or the bedrooms. I cannot put it outside because he is not an outdoor cat.

To minimize the issues we are buying one of these tho.

That's snazy. I need one. I'm stuck leaving the box on carpet and my cat makes a mess.

garage.

We have 2 litter boxes though, for 3 cats. One cat we've had for 12 or 13 years and she's cranky, so she doesn't like the newer cats (I think 3 yrs old) going in them. Old cat doesn't even like being around the new cats, actually.

I have 3 boxes for 2 cats, as per the usual recommendation. Unlike Descartes I prefer them to be on carpet because they don't track as easily elsewhere and I can just vacuum. I keep one in the living room, one in the closet of the den, and one near the utility closet in my bedroom.

I actually need all three probably, because one of my cats tends to defend the litterboxes. But he isn't smart enough to defend all three.

Our litterboxes go wherever the cat wants them. One in the basement, two on the first floor, and one on the second floor.

Kind of a pain, but otherwise our cat poops on things that she should not poop on.

Heh, unfortunately I will not be getting the Apple cinema display. Have to stick with my 3 19in Dell sigh. I like the furniture tho, much better than most of what is sold around this area.

The little bastard throws litter everywhere. A little cardboard won't stop him. I'm not even sure that box will stop him....

What's going in the closet that is under the stairs by the dining room? I'd recommend putting a cat door in that closet door and then putting the litter box there. We did that with our litter box and you almost never smell anything outside the closet. We keep both the cat's litter box and food in there. It only took 1 day to train her to use the cat door.
