What kind of treats do you give your cat? Mine doesn't like the Whiskas Temptations nor the Blue Buffalo ones. A lot easier to train an animal when you have something it likes.

anything that comes from my hand appears to be a treat, as far as our cat is concerned... sometimes I'll just give him a few pieces of his dry food and he eats it up like it's a treat.

this is what I usually buy, though. occasionally I'll give him a piece of unseasoned chicken or cut up a piece of sashimi, but he's rarely interested in people food.

 Those Feline Greenies are like cat crack. Our cats love them.

Our cat eats the same treats our dogs eat...Milk Bones, (broken into small pieces) Lamb jerky (from Costco), etc. She's getting old though, (she turned 18 over Labor Day) so she doesn't get much of that any more...her digestive tract doesn't handle it well...and I get tired of cleaning up cat puke...I hate bulemic cats.

Any cat treat I've ever given my cats they seem to like. Watched one eat a bug. So I'd assume bugs would suffice for any of mine...

Have you tried different flavors of the Temptations? My cat doesn't like the beef one and used to not like the Dairy flavor, but now she loves dairy and anything other than beef. She's also not fond of the catnip flavor or the dental care ones. I guess they must taste funny.

I don't buy treat for my cats, they have a pcs of steak or sushi when I have them. They're train to sit on a chair like little kids.

for training, you can try unsalted butter on your finger. You don't even need a chuck, a thin layer of butter will do.

Depends on the cat. I have one that will go nuts whenever I open a can because it might be tuna or salmon, and will follow me around if I have chicken. The other two can take or leave the meat, but will go bonkers to lick out a bowl with milk or ice cream residue. The third also will dip her paw in alcohol and lick that off. (Bailey's is her favorite, but I've actually caught her in my G&T when my back was turned.)

So I have the Carnivore, the Sweet Tooth, and the Alcoholic.

Ranger, that's a good idea on trying the different flavors of Temptations. I only tried the Chicken ones so far.

I'll also try the unsalted butter and Greenies that others suggested. Will also try the Dry Cat food trick, although he usually has some food left in the bowl since I feed him only once a day (in the morning).

Yeah, I'm trying to train him not to bite, he's a play agressive but still very young (about a year old). He'll try attacking my hand at random if I try to pet him, and then other times won't do it and likes being petted. Trying to teach him to not be in attack mode so much.

Thanks.

That seems to highlight how different their tastes can be, interesting. I'll have to try milk and some sardines with this guy.

As an aside related to alcohol, heard on the radio this morning that a vet saved a cat that drank antifreeze by intravenously giving them 3/4 of a bottle of vodka. Somehow alcohol can nullify antifreeze in the cat's system.

my cat goes bonkers for greenies, but won't touch certain other ones. It's hilarious when she finds the bag, rips the shit open, and eats them all :awe:

Since this is a cat thread, anybody else's cat cover their food? Mine covers what's left of any canned food I give her with whatever she can find after she finishes eating, and sometimes tries to cover it right after using the litter box. If she can't find anything she just makes pawing motions around it on the ground like she's covering it with an invisible piece of paper. She's used clothes, pieces of mail that she has to knock off my desk first, and anything else she can. She used to cover her dry food and water dish, which resulted in lots of socks and her cloth toys getting soaking wet (I don't even know where she found the socks!!), but now she only covers canned food since I moved her other dishes to a different location........

You got it all wrong bro, if he play aggressively you point your finger at him and say "NO" with authority. Show him who is the boss.

To which he promptly responds by biting off the tip of that finger and batting it around the floor like a toy, show YOU who's the boss. lol

The same enzyme processes both ethanol and ethylene glycol, so you can prevent the processing of ethylene glycol by adding enough of the other substrate to saturate the enzyme. Of course, you still have to clear the ethylene glycol, but we have dialysis for that.

I don't know why you would use commercial vodka instead of medical-grade IV ethanol, though. I suppose that veterinary medicine is usually done on a budget.

Alcohol can displace methanol in your system, I think. It's used in ERs when somebody drinks antifreeze too.

It is not, under general circumstances, a good idea to give a cat alcohol, and I cut her off after a lick or two of Bailey's. But she definitely enjoys it.
