Table scraps. When I'm preparing food, like chicken or steak, and I'm trimming off any excess fat or gristle, I toss the pieces to the cat and dogs. They seem to recognize that I'm taking turns with them.
When turkeys and such are on sale for ridiculously low prices. "19 cents a pound if you purchase $50 in groceries," I buy $50 in groceries, and get a turkey. A 20 pound turkey for $4?? Sure. Think about it - it's cheaper than cat food. Then, I don't feel guilty at all about roasting a turkey, having one meal, and putting the rest of the turkey carcass outside on the porch for the cats.
