I'm skeptical of hairball "fixes". Cats are supposed to have hairballs.

I've even just had a bit on my finger and they would lick it off.

We feed the guys wet and dry both during the week, and really have no problems.

I used to see it on some of my former kittahs that I only fed dry food.

Looks like it helps it come out the fore end, not aft. My kitties don't really have issues in that regard. Five seconds of retching, and I get a new prize to deal with :^D

Wild cats don't get hairball preventative. I doubt it would hurt them, but you'd have to research that on your own. I consider hairballs part of owning a cat. Not a great part, but better than the doggy alternatives. I'd only think of getting a preventative if my cat was having issues with hairballs; eg not coming out either end.

I don't really mind cleaning them up, because cleaning up after animals is all part of owning one, like you said. My biggest reason for wanting to prevent them is because I know I hate to throw up, so if I can do something simple to keep my cat from retching, I'd like to do it. I'll have to look into it some I guess.

My cat won't eat the Hairball treats, is there some other method of controlling hairballs? She's a long-haired cat and has had some pretty gnarly hairballs recently.

Frequent brushing with one of the rubber finger type brushes. We get about a small kitten off our furry monster, handful off the little one.

I had several indoor cats over my life and never even seen a hair ball. For serious. My brother's cat barfs his food all the time and he never gets the chance to develop a hair ball.
