Cat1 through Cat6, having some issues

First my house was built in the 1800s before light bulbs were common in homes with that being said nothing is ever straight forward and or industry standard in this house.

Now onto my issue, I am moving my DSL again, I have a dry loop with NO LAN line. I found a cat1 wire “red,green,yellow,black” connected to the inside terminal which ran to a 4P4C connector that I don’t need. So I disconnected at the terminal and ran cat6 with the connection on pair one. If I use a 4P4C connector I can get my DSL modem sync on a PINS 2&3 and for the life of me I can’t get it to work on my Cat6 connections. So what pins does the 4P4C connector 2&3 equal to on a cat6 connection, I hope this makes sense.

Generally there is no advantage to using cat6 on the end of a copper loop from the phone company.

Also check this:
Green (loop) = White / blue
Red (ring) = Blue / white
Black (loop) = white / Orange
yellow (ring) = Orange / white

If your CAT6 keystone is punched down correctly to either 586A or 586B standard, the blue pair will be your telco "line 1" (inner pair) on the other end. Telco "line 2" (outer pair) would be Orange if 586A or Green if 586B.

While looking at the 4P4C (pointy latch part backwards and the copper "teeth" down)

The pins go 1 - > 4 left to right

1 - Black - White / Orange
2 - Red - Blue / White
3 - Green - White / Blue
4 - Yellow - Orange / White

Out of all of that, only the red + green / Blue/white + White/Blue (pair 1) will often matter as DSL is a single pair service.

I am fairly certain that pin2 is green and pin3 is red but since I don’t have it front of me I can’t confirm. Beyond that and maybe this is where my confusion lies, what pins should I use on the cat6 connection? pins 4/5 don’t seem to work?

It is also "strange" because blue is the only one reversed:

in a 4 pair "RJ" connector (ie not ethernet) it would be white/brown, white/green, white/orange, blue/white, white/blue, orange/white, green/white, brown/white.

Thanks for all the responses I appreciate it, I was in lala land and was using pins 3&5 thinking I was using pins 4&5, once I used pins 4&5 I got DSL sync and I am good to go.
