Can someone with 9.4 run this simple AF Test? This tool need not be installed.

AF Tester

Set control panel AF as "Use Application Settings" and disable Catalyst AI, and launch the app, and slide the bar.

I have 9.5 installed and 16AF looks like this.

Catalyst 9.5 16xAF

C***, so I should probably go back to 9.4 now.

For Clear Sky, FC & WiC, sure
- why don't you run them and compare - if you have these games; i am reporting my issues with these drivers - and it is in line with TweakTown's results

i am loving Cat 9-5 on 4890

I don't have those games installed, but if Cat 9.5 brought a performance drop in some games, I'm thinking that it might be something wrong with them and probably some other titles can be affected. It's safer on 9.4.

If this is confirmed, and I see little reason to doubt Tweaktown or apoppin, I would like to know what the hell the AMD technicians were testing these drivers on prior to release - solitaire?

But I see a the performance is good in this site....

Can you offer a shot that is fully colored? It would be appreciated.

ATI is 9.5 and Gigabyte is 8.5. I don't have any games. I just want to connect an HDMI TV/Monitor with an LCD DVI Monitor. Thanks for any help.

The newer driver from the website.

Also, to the people who posted earlier about some grammar mistake in the 9.5 pdf file I linked. That pdf file was a "rough-draft" which has not been looked over fully for errors, which is why it was not posted on the ATI website. It included most of the changes and stuff though.

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure if it mattered that the card was manufactured by Gigabyte. If I got the card from ATI then there's no doubt. Thanks for you help.

Any further news on the poor performance issues with 4850's and 4870's? I was looking at the ATI forums: some members report issues, but there is no official response as far as I can see (i.e. a hotfix).

I have the impression that there is some performance drop in Fallout 3, with these Cat 9.5 on my 4870, with 8X AA. But I'm not that sure, maybe I'm just imagining things. It seems to stutter a bit on opened areas.

i am doing massive testing with 9-5 now and all flavors of 4870/4890 CrossFire-X2/X3.

of my 13 game benchmark, 4870 scores lower in 5 .. only suffering badly in a couple and there is one improvement.

i'd stick with Cat 9-4 for 4870 but get 9-5 for 4890 [or even for 4870-X2 as they are tweaking CF, it appears]

I have 2 4850's, given that they seem to be focusing more attention on crossfire, would you advise me to go with 9.5?

Cheers

that is a tough question for me to answer since i don't have 4850.
- if you are ambitious, test the new drivers out - if not, stick with 9-4

what games are you playing now; games that you would like more performance from?

I am about to set up a new Internet connection [currently offline at home] so I'm not really playing anything (I have Left4 Dead and the new Silent Hill boxed and awaiting me).

Excuse my ignorance, but couldn't we assume that your testing on CF 4870 will also apply to the 4850? This is the card in question if it helps (factory overclocked):

Just went back to 9.4, after a long adventure of uninstalling, reinstalling with errors, uninstalling again, safe mode, driver sweeper bla bla bla and I can confirm that Fallout 3 is much smoother on these then it was on 9.5. AMD has a pathetic drivers team.

I checked and this driver made my 4870 run in 8x mode instead of 16x on the PCI Express bus. A couple versions ago, a driver did the same thing(which was fixed with the next release). Could this be the cause of the performance drop that has been experienced?

wouldn't there be a general performance drop? And i am not so sure 8x PCIe is a problem with 4870

My friend tested a few games with 4850 and 9-5 vs 9-4 .. he got increases - but they are mostly older games {FarCry/STALKER} except for L4D

of my 15 game benchmark, only 2 games suffered badly with 4870 [FC2/CS] - so keep it in perspective

I've noticed a performance drop in TF2 in 32 player games(The only drop I've noticed). Is it possible that not all games are as heavy on the bus itself as others? Maybe some need to transfer data over it more than others.

Let me clarify that I am on PCI Express x16 non 2.0. So my 16x is like your 8x. My 8x would be like your 4x.
