You know.. I have to say most of the people supporting marriage here seem not to support for religious reasons but for social reasons..

I'm actually kinda disappointed. That's actually the reason why male priests were the only ones allowed in the first place; for social reasons. Not like I'm trying to put words in your mouth.. (ok, yeah I am ) but it should be a return back to the religion and Christianity says nothing about not letting women speak the word and gospel...

Hell, I'm going to start a flame war by doing this... BUT...

If we were to follow the teachings of the New Testament, the Catholic branch of Christianity should be abolished..
Yup, I said it.. There really shouldn't be hugely different denominations, such as in this case Catholic and Protestant.

Ok.. Let the flames begin.

(BTW, I'm being a slight devil's advocate, no pun intended)

Add Poll,

Should Priests be allowed to hold active membership with N.A.M.B.L.A.?

So why not get rid of the Protestants instead? Catholicism DOES have seniority, after all.

Your Church's tradition includes centuries of atrocities commited against humanity.

Of course, because the Catholic church does not follow the bible. I don't read the bible much but I do know it says that everyone should have a family. Didn't most holy men in the bible have a family. And why follow religion. It's God's word you are suppose to be following not the religions word.

I am suppose to be a Catholic but, the more I found out about the Catholic Church the more I thought that religion was BS.

No one is claiming to be perfect. I'm merely pointing out that the Catholic church's traditions has done great harm to humanity and they have been reforming in the past. I don't see why they shouldn't let priests marry and women be priests.

ACTUALLY.....I believe in the translation I have read, there are a few passages (ie: more than one) about women not being able to spread the word of the gospel.
I can't remember where exactly they were, but I'm fairly sure that in the Bible in a few places it says/infers that.
Although different translations may have different opinions on the subject/wording.

And you can't say "Christianity" says xxx, because it doesn't, unless you mean the teaching of Christ from the NT.
And I can't remember if the comments about women were from OT, NT or both. I'm not a huge religion fan.

I never understood the Catholic thinking around this. A Catholic lady told me that the reason was because priests pattern their lives after Peter. If that is true, it doesn't make any sense because Peter was married.

There are reasons for priests to not marry.. Focusing on the job and whatnot. There is NO reason to now allow women to be priests. It's pure sexism. Remember, women weren't allowed to do a lot of things a few decades ago.

They used to be allowed to marry until 12th century..mainly it was about control and retainment of church assets after preist died. Families are expensive, inheritance is expensive.

The reason I was told, at least by my mom (a Catholic) is that Priests are supposed to dedicate their entire lives to God. That's why they don't marry.

Biblically that is error. After Christ arose and men and women could be born again, its the spirit of person that determines whether or not they have the call of God. In the old testament men were at the forefront because of the order of law and the spirit of man was still seperated from direct contact with God. But even some women like Ruth found tremendous favor with God and he used them instead. Shame most christians don't read the manual that came with the belief. If most christians read the bible which should be and better be the foundation of what you believe, a lot of the error in christianity wouldn't exist.

I am not sure, I am not Catholic, it looks there are numerous beliefs as to why. Not many according to the bible have the gift of celibacy. It is a gift from God, something many don't understand. Typically it will be for someone of great work. I'll make a statement that hopefully doesn't offend people, but at the root of all the sexual perversion of priests is the denial of allowing them to be married. Its a sin before God and because of it the devil has to taken the oppurtunity to have a field day.

I said it before somewhere... any institution which was given such power over a period of 2000+ years is bound to do some horrible things along the line. It is human nature to abuse power. Hindus, Jews, Chinese, etc. would likely have committed many atrocities too had they been put in the position of power the Catholic church has been.

I never understood the non-Catholic's concern with women becoming priests.
