Caught 52 Dolphins this Morning

Mahi Mahi - the fish so good they named it twice

I went to destin over the weekend. I caught one shark and some other fish.

There were 5 others on the boat, so I didn't catch them all.

Any type of limit on Mahi Mahi when you are fishing for them like there are on game fish in the states? Just curious. I don't live near the ocean, my favorite fish to eat around here are Northern Pike and Largemouth Bass.

My mom's in Niceville (across the mid-bay bridge from Destin). I'll show her your pictures and she'll be on that boat every weekend.

i have heard of the Mahi-mahi before but didnt know it was also called dolphin.

sounds like a fun trip. I would love to go fishing for fish like that. But in IL the choices are limited heh

It's not just the fishing in Illinois...

I picked up my divers certification in Florida and did a lot of diving in the Gulf, off the Keys, and even in some of the springs in central Florida.

I was in school at UIUC years and took up an offer from a local dive shop to go diving in a flooded quarry.

I only did it once. I was the suxor.

Yeah, we went out on Monday. Had caught all the snappers within 3 hours, and we caught the mackeral in about an hour. On sunday the boat had pulled in a 80lb amberjack, we only brought one amberjack in and it was too small.

fresh fish is awesome. rivals a good steak IMO.

mahi is very good. triggerfish is awesome too. probably my favorite fish. pick up some k-pauls blackened redfish magic, and blacken some of those filets in an iron skillet. make sure you have strong hood above your stove, otherwise use the grill putting the pan over the hot coals. blackening produces a lot of smoke, and you want the seasoning to be black and red, not just charred black.

edit: wanted to add that these dolphins are beautiful when pulling them from the water. the colors are so bright and vivid, its just awesome. cant really tell from the pics, because the colors fade fairly fast when out of the water.

You gotta be kidding me. Those are my two favorite types of fish to fish for, but crappie and sunfish both taste much better. Trout too. And Walleye, especially walleye.
