I posted a message yesterday about my computer always crashing and rebooting spontaneously. To recap some people thought it might be heat related. I have a Asus v6800 video card, via k7v athlon 750 mobo/chipset, latest nvidia drivers, windows xp.

Anyway here is what XP says after my computer reboots for the error signature.

BCCode : 50 BCP1 : E0446720 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : BFA70779
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 768_1

Ofcourse this means nothing to me and maybe nothing to the rest of you but in case someone has any idea what this means I thought I'd post it. Does it sound heat related. I'm about ready to either go out and buy a case fan or a new video card.

well try running with your ass open and see if that helps any. being heat relate is certainly a possiblity, also flaky ram or mb may also be at fault.

Could be RAM, heat, power supply, or motherboard related. I would try to check them in that order. If you have two sticks of RAM, does it still crash with just one? Do you have another HSF you could try? Are you running temperature monitoring software and notice an increase in Temp before a crash? Do you have another power supply you could try? Do you have another motherboard you could try?

Well I've had the case off and it still crashes.

I'm pretty sure that it is driver related. I don't think my Asus v6800 can handle the detonator drivers. However if I switch back to the 18 month old asus factory drivers some of my older games are stable but other games like Wolfenstein just don't work anymore.

I don't have a spare mobo, power supply to try and the new RAM I bought is about 4 months old now so I don't think that caused it.

I have run an Asus V3800 TNT2U on the Detonator 21.81 drivers and it ran just like it should. I don't think that is the problem (using the newest drivers)

They are meant to run with all cards from TNT2 and up (maybe even TNT1 - not sure)

I know for sure that the 6800's not only ran hot, but sucked an ungodly amount of juice for a video card, it may be a GPU cooler problem, or a PSU problem.

Oh this is terific. I installed the smartdoctor that came with my Asus card. According to its analysis my video card is ok and running a acceptable temperature. It's default setting is that it runs on startup. However when it closes it crashes and seems to be using up all my cpu cycles according to windows task manager. I have to reboot my computer inorder to fully turn it off however because it is crashing I can't make it stop turning on on startup so the process repeats. Let me tell you this smartdoctor isn't too smart.

I think I'm just having a bad day. Sigh.

And I can't uninstall it because it says it is in use..... Aaarrrrgggghhhhh

It may be a good thing to get a new video card, for sure!
test that old one in another machine when you get it out though. it's possible it's just not working right with your setup, and may work fine in something else! the 6800's are a very finnicky card from what I have seen.. might need some TLC and picky config in a new PC and it'd work fine.

If everything checks out OK in another PC, you can sell that baby off, or put it into another PC of yours if you have one.

if you choose to sell it, LMK, i'd be interested, as my old system is only running a TNT2U, i'd be willing to play with that card if i could get it rather cheaply!

Yeah sure thing, I'm not even sure how much second hand video cards go for these days.... what's reasonable?

You mention that they are quite finnicky cards. Is this just from what you have heard or have there been some written discussion about them. I'd like to read about them if you have any links or sites that cover it.

Also I had to do an XP system restore to get rid of smartdocter.... lol

P.S. It might very well be that the card is just overworked because I'm playing the latest 3d games on them with the latest drivers. Perhaps in my parents machine it will feel a little more confortable. It seems to beable to handle basic web browsing and email just fine lol!

szModName : nv4_disp.dll szModVer : 6.13.10.2311 Offset : BB7906EA

Damn , I have the same error message(as your first one) using a abit mobo, gf3 ti500 card. I've order a 500 watt power supply, a new case and 2(to add to my existing2) more cooling fans. I'll post how it works out, if your still following this post and haven't solved it yourself yet
