The law is pretty simple and would only be applied in very few cases.
1. Your child is missing for 48 hours and you think their safety may be at risk then you must report it to the police.
2. Your child died in an accident then you must report it to the police within 24 hours.
Simple stuff. I don't think it imposing too much for people to report missing or dead children.
Haven't heard much from ProfJohn in a while...
I'll say it again... Would anyone have introduced a bill like this if CA was found guilty? No.
"You don't know that!"
Yes I do... It's simple. Did anyone propose this law BEFORE the verdict? No. It's a knee jerk reaction to a botched trial and an unpopular verdict. And for those of you who are screaming about needing a law like this for situations like this. SituationS? Why do you think this trial was such a huge story? I'll tell you. Because it doesn't happen every day. Most infanticide cases are pretty cut and dried. This case was unique.
We don't need a law. It'll never apply to CA. It won't add any time to her jail sentence. The thought that it will come into play again as it MIGHT have in this case seems more than just remote. It's a bad idea. I guarantee there will be unintended negative consequences. Just let it go.
One question:
Now that this case has shown if you do kill your child all you must really do to get away Scot-free is fail to report the kid missing and hide the body long for natural decay to destroy the evidence so that cause of death cannot be determined, do you think anybody might try this anbd hope or the same results as Casey Anthony?
If it is a possibility, what do you do to stop it?
Personally I think there should be some penalty for the legally responsible parent/guardian who fails to report a 2 or 3 year old child, who is incapable of caring for themselves, that has gone missing. I'm quite surprised there isn't already.

How is this 'big government' ??
I am opposed to murder too, is that a big government law??

She SHOULD have been convicted of murder/man slaughter but the prosecution failed in epic style.
Oh yea sure, I follow! Because of this court decision, mothers all over this country have opened themselves up to the possibility of killing their children! It's all because of this case. This is what is motivating them to kill their children.
No, I do not believe for an instance someone who was ready and willing to kill her child will stop and think "What Would Casey Anthony Do?"
Let

A 1999 US Department of Justice study concluded that between 1976 and 1997 in the United States, mothers were responsible for a higher share of children killed during infancy while fathers were more likely to have been responsible for the murders of children age 8 or older.[1] Furthermore, 52% of the children killed by their mothers were male (maternal filicide), while 57% of the children killed by their fathers were male (paternal filicide). 61% of children murdered under the age of five were murdered by their parents; filicide is the third leading cause of death amongst American children five to fourteen years old.
Yes she should have been convicted except it wasn't the prosecution that failed. It was the brain dead jury that couldn't figure out the answer to 2+2+? Worst abortion of a jury than in the OJ Fiasco.
Nah, just see nothing left to add to this thread...SOP for him. When proven wrong, he bails and goes to one of the other 4-5 troll threads he creates daily. He just keeps hopping around and starting more troll threads, so he always has a couple free to move to when proved wrong.
