If you missed out on the Fry's or Microcenter deals, my CC ad had the 9800 NP selling for $199 after a $100 IR starting Sunday.

My local Fry's had tons of the 9800 NP's yesterday and they were selling them for $299. I showed the manager an ad with the card for $199 at a different Fry's, but he wouldn't give me the rebate. I don't want to waste my time again at CC.

CC doesnt have the samsung ddr in their 9800's though right? i got one at CC on Black Friday after a pricematch with microcenter for 195 and i did not get samung ram nor did i get the HL2 coupon-- i think they're trying to get rid of all their 9800s so i doubt they're gonna carry ones with the coupon btw~

Online: no idea
HL2: Not out-of-the-box if it's a Built By Ati. CC may have a deal however with ATi where CC will provide the coupon through a cash register receipt deal. See recent threads about Microcenter screwing up on said receipts.
Moddable to PRO: Depends on the memory on the card. Many NP don't go over 310mem or 325mem. PRO speed is 340mem. Try the Rage3D tweak tool before flashing BIOS to find out if your card can do 380 core/340 mem with no artifacts. Even then, why bother? Why risk messing up the card if all you need is to install rage3d and have it clock the card to desired speed after you boot Windows?
Don't forget that the 9800 NP is a PRO with lower clocks and different memory chips (most of the time, anyway). A PRO bios would not get you more pipelines or a 256bit mem path; you already have both on the NP.

CC is Circuit City, correct? I picked up a 9800NP yesterday for $249 after they would not price match Best Buy's $299 9800 Pro price of $299. It has Infineon 3.0ns chips on it. I am at 384.75 core and 310.5 memory, up from 325/295. This is not the good Samsung ram. Using Rage3D overclocker to adjust speed. Have not tried any higher on the memory, but supposedly if you can get to 330 that would be tops. No need to flash bios and I doubt you would see a performance difference unless you benchmark for fun. Benchmarks are not interactive enough for me.

btw, as a strange sidenote: win2k recognizes my 9800 NP as 9800 pro but rivatuner says clock is ~324 (that is, NP)

On my card, the 3.0 Infineon does 320 without corruption. 325 and up give some corruption under heavy, prolonged stress. 323 was OK so I backed down to 320 just to be safe. Core on my NP does 405 with no pixel errors so I run at 400.

ATI.com says that 9800 NP has 325e/580m engine/memory clock; why do you guys divide memory clock in half?

because the memory of 9800, or anyone of the new card, are DDR. Double Data Rate, transfer on rising and trailing edge of the signal. let's say the actual memory speed is 100Mhz, in DDR talk it's 200.

Mine also has 3.0ns Infineon memory on it. 333MHz causes severe corruption after a few minutes. The core is pretty overclockable, but the memory is pretty weak. 1/3ns = 333MHz, so it's strange that the memory won't run stable at that speed.

I know some people were doing pencil modifications to the memory voltage regulator input resistors, but I'd rather not chance it. Several people have ruined their cards by not being careful.

I tried 3 different CC's 9800NP's and they all had Infineon 3.0ns ram the max memory safe OC is around 317-325 depending on your case temps. Returned them and got a refurbished PRO at Newegg for $224. The overclocked NP's benched about the same as the Stock PRO but when you OC the PRO then it's no contest. BTW non of the NP's at CC have a HL2 voucher.

After saying that $199 for this card is a excellent value considering other cards in the sub $200 price range cannot touch this cards raw fill rate and performance at high resolutions.

Just got back from CC and got this card. I was there when they opened and they only had one card. Installed it and it is identified as a 9800 Pro. I really don't believe it is a pro and even if not this is an outstanding deal at 199. Played Starwars galaxies and several other games and what a difference from my Radeon 8500. Well the kids will benefit because the 8500 is handed down to them now. Venk, thanks for posting this deal.
