I just picked up two at my CC in Darien, IL. They were listed on the shelf as 69.99, but when I took it to the counter, it rang up 19.95, yippee! They are Verbatim drives with model # VBT401248A. Not bad for 20 bux!

yes it does. It's a red box

What is the significance of burnproof?- i haven't researched the drive yet to see what it is.

Gives your burner a little give, if the buffer runs dry for wahtever reason, it can slow(maybe even stop) the burn process and wait for it to fill back up

shouldn't they call that coaster proof instead of burn proof?

Sales person was really suprised

Back has the drive model: LTR-40125S

Remember, just because its not marked on the shelf doesn't mean its not on sale

D'oh! Now I have to go back and check again. I was looking for a $19.99 pricetag. I should have known better. Wish me luck - I'm currently using a Que! USB 4x external

Out of the 40x12x48 at the Tigard, OR store.

However, they did have 48x12x48 Cendyne drives for $29.95, no rebates or anything. I almost went for that but I've seen too many $10 and $20 burner deals lately.

Hrm. Didn't see anything 40x at the Springfield, OR store. I don't think they even had the 48x drive. Blah

Got the Last one here at the Willow Grove, PA store, ( Yea for me ) !
But it's a model # VBT401248A , which is the verbatim ( bummer ) !
as a side note, it DOES have a 12 degit serial number on it, and on the outside of the box
ANYONE know if the verbatim can be flashed to 48x ?
How about a web site with more info, on this drive, and others ?

Picked up the last 40x at the Hoover, AL store. It was an open box but I checked it out before they rang it up and it looked ok. I confirmed it was a Lite-on. Installed it on one of my systems last night and ran a few tests. Checks out ok so far. Went back today and snagged the last 48x. Decided to go by the Irondale, AL store but they didn't have either one.

Thanks for the heads up.

Kenny et al,

It's highly likely your CenDyne-Verbatim is a rebadged Lite-On too!

Last year I got a CenDyne-Verbatim 24X burner. I peeled off the silver Verbatim sticker from the bare drive housing and, lo and behold, there was a similar Lite-On sticker underneath it! I flashed the drive with Lite-On firmware and from then on, it was a "real" Lite-On!

Does your burner have a 12-digit serial number?

np spread it around
noting (to others) that verbatim and cendyne have the same rebate system and all that -- check mr mysticman's old cendyne/officemax/staples threads for more cendyne/lite-on info

Hey Steve0
Yea I remember that deal, I received the same exact thing, ?? was om, if I remember right.
Got tne 24x drive and , what,?? it could be flashed to ?? 32x ??
Never did get around to it, BUT would like to do it NOW, soit's a little better for someone else to use,
Before I pull it out, cause this drive 40x - 48x is the one that's gonna replace it.
Yes , I do have a 12 digit serial # on this, thats the reason ( other than NO rebate ) I purchased it.

Still need a location for a bios for Both of these Puppys.
Thanks in advance,
Ken

Thank you so much uncle bud for clearing this up for me.....

Q: 1.6. Could you name some brands that may be manufactured by Lite-On?

A: Sure, but note that they are not always Lite-On(check front and back nad firmware version to be sure), unless I say so.
Memorex, all drives from Twelve1040 MAXX and up is Lite-On

TDK, the only model I know of is the 40X that is sometimes Lite-On.

IOmega, Sells drives from various manufacturers, some of their 32X and 40X drives have been manufactured by Lite-On.

Pacific digital, sometimes you get Lite-On drives.

Traxdata, the newer 32X, 40X and 48X traxdata drives is Lite-On.

Sony, some sonys is Lite-On. All from 32X and up is Lite-On.

Verbatim, all verbatims is manufactured by Lite-On.

Cendyne is sometimes Lite-On.

I'm sure I forgot some.....notify me if there is other brands..
