CCIE

I been thinking of getting CCIE certification if some of you people with this cert can tell me is there a lot of work. I been looking and it seems to be some jobs out there and moneys not bad So any advice and is it worth it .

I don't have a CCIE myself, but I know someone who does. He said that a CCIE certification isn't the hardest on the block, but it also isn't the easiest. He also says not to totally depend on the certification to get a nice job with good pay. Experience, a college degree, and good people skills will help you go further than just a CCIE with a little experience.

Thankz for your replies I have been a system admin for a long time, it time to change for the better but with the market being so soft I just want to find out how CCIE is doing out in the market.

CCIEs are having a hard time finding jobs right now unless you want a huge pay cut (most technology workers are). A good friend of mine has 15 years networking experience and an MBA as well as CCIE.

He can't find a job. the only offer he's received so far has been for 60K - severe pay cut. He's very sharp and well known in this market.

Kinda hard to believe why he would have a hard time finding a job then. Depends on your market though. There are plenty of tech jobs out there right now, and if your area doesn't have any then usually neighboring areas will.

Put it this way - from what I hear, the two-day long lab test has about a 15% pass rate. Most people don't make it to the second day and a lot don't even make it to lunch on the first. It's one of the toughest tests in the industry. If there's a harder one, I've never heard of it.

I've had employees who have been doing hard-core networking (for big companies like AT&T and Boeing) for many years study 20 hours a week for 6+ months and still bomb the lab. The written isn't that hard, but the lab is a killer.

So far as I know, of all the professional networkers here, I don't know of any who have their CCIE and we're a pretty hardcore bunch, many who have been around since the beginning of real modern networks.

At this point, I consider myself to be pretty well-versed with most Cisco switching and routing hardware and wouldn't DREAM of presuming to take the CCIE, even the written.

I have heard the same thing about the lab but the course I'll be taking will take you up to the written plus get you ready for the lab using thier lab .I would have to fly to San Jose , CA for the lab.

or raleigh, i'm taking my lab in october. i expect to fail.
