it's still considerably cheaper than some of the other CCNA boot camps out there... hell, it's peaked my interest in it. i'm going to try to get my work to pay for part of it. if not, phone home and beg the folks for some extra dinero...

There is not need to go to any kinda class to get a CCNA. I did it all without classes just studied the books. well if someone like ur company is paying for it then anything goes...but still i think the test is easy...just read the books. and another thing...if u fail the test 2 times u might as well be a retard...

actually this a good deal for folks who dont have the time for basic studies. I have worked as a trainer and can can vouch for the power of classroom instruction. You cant beat having a human there to explain a concept. So long as its not a smart @ss like sak.:Q

With their "guarentee" what's to stop people from just intentionally failing the test twice to get their money back and then, with their newly gained knowledge and fistful of dollars go take the test again and pass?

$29.95+tax or $1945. As others have said, you can pass the exam with just reading. Just buy the damned router and several books. You could save some money and have all the time you need to study, not just 5 days.

I think that's the whole point of this. 5 days!!!

Some people would prefer to get it over with a.s.a.p.

I also have to agree that having someone there teaching is much better by far.

what kind of experience should you have prior to enrolling or even thinking about this?

I would really like to know, and am very interested.

Well Virge, at least now we know how you got your Platinum member status...

sitz121, thanks for the post. Great deal for someone who is interested. I wish they would offer something like that for MCSD or MCSE exams.

could anyone tell me how useful the CCNA certification is? I'm 19, i have tons of experiance with windows/NT networking and i know more about computers than anyone else i know. I've been looking at getting my MCSE certification but i just dont know if i want to go through a semester of BS classes to get it. This 5 day certification sounds pretty damn sweet. anyone estimate what this certification is worth in the job market?

thanks

Robbed, if you think you know enough, just pick up a book. Thats probably all you need. I got my A+ by reading a book for one week total for both tests, OS tech & core hardware. I already knew most of the stuff. Im taking 2 years of CCNA classes in High School, but the class is so slacking. We just play games all day. Thats why Im the only one who actually does work. Im probably just gonna take it w/o books or further classes. Its a good cert of have. Im a senior, and plan of having A+ (done!), CCNA, Network+, MCSE before I head to CalPoly.

By the way, from what we went through so far, theres TONS more to CCNA then windows networking. For example, the OSI model. Pick up a book first

A CCNA is pretty comparible to the old MS Networking Essentials test, but it looks like the CCNA goes a bit more in depth. It's all networking concepts, doesn't have anything to do with MS-land at all.

MS Networking Essentials Covers Chapter 1 of the 15 Chapter Book you need to know for CCNA...

I've Got my MCSE, and will have the CCNA by the end of the year...

There's a big difference!

This is kinda off topic, but to the guys who suggest buying a book instead of the bootcamp, which books do you suggest? Any suggestions would be helpful, because everybook out there claims to be the quintescential guide to certification. I'm mainly interested in the A+, MCSE, and CCNA. Thanks.

Buy the Sybex book "CCNA Study Guide" by Todd Lammle. It comes with a CD-ROM with a practice test. It's well enough written that I can understand most things the first time through.

Not sure about CCNA, but for A+ do not get the Sybex edition. I read through it to refresh on W2K and NT4 for the OS tech side of A+. The whole book is like a beginner's guide. I mean, come on now, we are reading this book to become a Professional, not learn how to use the computer for the first time

Wow so few replies? Where are all these great books you guys are talking about?

$29.95+tax or $1945. As others have said, you can pass the exam with just reading. Just buy the damned router and several books. You could save some money and have all the time you need to study, not just 5 days.

I was considering a bootcamp too since it'll save me a bunch in the hidden, opportunity cost of reading a lengthy book. If there are a few books out there that'll save me cash up front and in the time I'll spend reading it, that would be a real Hot Deal that everyone can appreciate.

I personally think its a bunch of bull$hit! Go to school and get a degree in Computer Engineering or Comp Sci. My poor friends from back in High School 3 years ago thought that an A+ or MCSE would do the trick, and they are still looking for a job. The truth is really who you know instead of what you know, especially in this field. The manager of a firm can easily get his brother's son or whatever relative he has to come in and do the job without experience cus the company has the resources to train him.
