How2Pass is pretty good with it's free tests. *EDIT*...I do not condone the braindumps there.

Also any free test I have taken so far has been pretty pale in comparison to those you'd have to pay for.

I am getting ready to test next week for CCENT and then CCNA end of Oct.

Test Date for CCENT is 10/13

I got my CCNA a long time ago. I didn't need any forums, but I did go to a class to get hands on experience with routers.

I got my CCNA last week, forget about the braindumps. In my bootcamp class of 12, only 3 passed.
I have some experience in networking and I have to say that the test was harder then I tought. You really have to know the basic stuff

That made no sense.

To KK, it's hard to say if learning about networking falls under that subforum. Depends on if the reader is an asshole or not like you.

I used this site to help me with my final studies. There is a pdf in there which states the myths and truths of the test.

You definitely need to know your stuff inside and out. Take a few practice tests. I used Self-test and it was pretty much exactly like the actual test.

KNOW HOW TO SUBNET!! I can't stress that enough. 50 percent of the questions had subnetting in them. Not direct subnetting questions, but "configure the two interfaces with the 3rd and 8th available address on this class b /23 network"

PM me if you have any questions, or are interested in any other resources. I have a bunch material.

and of course....good luck.

what made no sense?

ccna is an entry level cert so you have to know the basic networking stuff

- subnetting is extremely important
- ospf, rip, eigrp
- spanning tree, vtp
- vlan, trunking
- ...

What I meant was it was like saying you are being tested on math and were given math questions on the test.

I have the subnetting down...what's kicking my ass (and I have since bought the new books) is when they ask you something like "What methods would a recognense hacker use?"

I know what hacking is but might not know it's would be pinging to find IP's vs physically defeating room security.

I should have taken this test last year before they changed it. I had just bought my house and my wife had to be hospitalized...I never got back around to it.

it's much more difficult then it used to be, and this coming from people who had to recertify

anyway. you have 3 types of answers

-wrong answer
-good answer
-Cisco answer

I passed with a 940 and 945, passing score is part of a NDA

I'm studying now for my CCNP, I want to take my first exam in a few weeks

good luck!!!!

I don't get those that recert at CCNA...the CCNP is really supposedly an 'easier' test bed since you can pick a specific part to be tested on.

I will say you are right though hearing from other's beyond CCNA now when they have commented on my questions. They aren't sure why Cisco makes them tested as they have little real world benefit. The new wireless questions are good, subnetting is good and being able to explain what's happening/not happening on a sim/network diagram is very beneficial to real-world CCNA duties.

These stupid questions on vocab are not so. I feel confident I would pass right now, but I am going to finish reading McQuerry's book (I am done with Odom ICND1) and nail my flash cards to test next week.

LOL, steve is a good buddy of mine. Work with him all the time.

Try a boson test if you can get one current.

Boson's come with the Odum books. I am doing well on them considering most have said getting 50-60% on a Boson is almost sure to pass the real CCNA

Problem with the Boson is they don't clarify how many anwers they are looking for and some of the questions are vague at best.

EDIT: TreyRandom has corrected this below, but in case no one scrolls down...

The BOSON EX-MAX questions are much much better. The run about $100 and you get 180 of them along with full explainations of the answers with hyperlinks to Cisco.com's specific white page on the question/concepts.

The cisco press supplied ones with the books are adequate at best.

Wendell Odom (writes CCNA and CCIE books for Cisco Press) wants to see mostly simlets and testlets. I agree more simlets would be nice, but testlets can take some time to get through. Maybe if they worked on a standard presentation format of testlets, I wouldn't waste time looking for the information I need to answer the question. I will applaud them for working on the their objective lists for the CCNP exams. They help you study the right material.

alkemyst: Did you not hear about their Second Chance offer? Since April, you could retake any failed exam for free. It's like getting a free practice test. You have til Oct 15, to use the retake.

That is not accurate... Boson's engine comes with the Odom books, but the questions are written by Cisco Press. Boson's questions, which are of much better quality, come only in Boson's ExSim Max for CCNA product, available on Boson's Web site.

Well if you had known this was available, would you have already taken it? Cisco is trying to help a few more new people get certified that might be on the fence. I think it was a good marketing tool to get more people to look at the exams.

ahh no. I started reading beginning of the month. I planned on taking the exam this Friday but my wife was called out of the country last week so my reading has been light.

I actually had thought this was always an option, but apparently not anymore.

Just checked... How2Pass is a braindump... illegal collections of questions from the live exam. Using them can get you decertified for life.

No, not everything... only my certifications.

Spend 10 years in IT, and it's really not that difficult to get that many.

I didn't hit the braindumps...just the sample tests, are they also in violation? Certguard was not loading.

I'm with ya here alkemyst! I'm studying for Network+, Security+, A+, CCNA, and CISSP. CCNA will probably be the last one I take though. Right now I'm studying for A+, but it annoys me that I know 80% of what is on there, and the stuff I don't know is either:

A. Useless memory addresses and IRQ's
B. Mixed in with the stuff I know like the back of my hand

I got the ExamCram series of books to study for the tests and they seem to do a decent enough job (Though, I have next to no time to plow through them with all the stuff going on here at college)!

Good luck on the exam though!!!!

If their sample tests contain actual exam questions, yes. Would they give away actual exam questions on free test? I doubt it. I would shy away from those places.

Cisco has authorized training partners. It's just nearly impossible to get their crap to find what you need unless you want to take a class. Boson is what I see most people use, and everyone says it's the best. Frankly, I just use the questions in the books. My approach is hands-on so I'm more than likely going to encounter on the router/switch something similar to what's going to be on the exam(I have been off though). If you work on the theory(flash cards, even old fashion writing), do hands-on, and read over the areas you have trouble with, you won't need all those fancy practice tests. Those fancy practice tests are good for one thing, higher test scores. Only CCSI need higher than normal passing scores.

Just using the equipment is so helpful. Although, if they want to reward people for hands-on practice, increase the exam time to 2 hours and add in more sims. I would love more sims instead of some boring theory questions
