If you into networking take it. One of the best uses of time for a high school career if you are interested in it.

It does take some dedication though.

I got kinda screwed when I took mine for a year. The teacher was new and we started down the CCNA track, well when she saw about 70% of the class wasn't getting it. She switched the entire class to A+. So needless to say none of us walked away with anything except intro to each course.

I'd say go for it...after you at least look at the recommended Cisco book's table of contents. If you are interested in a career in networking but more importantly (imho) a much higher level of knowledge of networking than your average IT person, go for it. The material isn't hard but if you have no familiarity with networks it may take you longer to get the material.

Don't get the cert just to get the cert unless you don't have anything else to do during that class time.

Teaching Cisco in High School??

If your expereienced go for it, but I would think that there would be kids with no previous expereince in computers/networking taking the class and probably getting certified which eventually would downgrade the cert.

You still have to pass the tests and the CCNA is the hardest introductory test in the industry. And if the class is done well ( mine wasn't) you are studying for a year with hands with hands on experience.

Dude go for it you are talking about the cisco academy program. That program is kick ass I know a few guys who went through it. It's a great program because you will have 100 times more hands on experience with the equipment rather than someone who just went through a boot camp. The guys I know did not have any problems passing that test on the firt try.

Good Luck

It's interesting. I'd go for it if I were you.
I have to do it for my 4th year software engineering project, because we're writing a replacement for Packet Tracer, and I need to implement IOS (ugh, a lot of work).

Jae so basically you have to pay for your own test. I'm still sure you can get a large discount off of it since you came through the cisco academy. Good luck though how much hands on are you getting with the equipment.

If I could have taken the Cisco Academy in highschool, I would have done it in an eyeblink. Granted, I didn't know I'd end up in networking at the time, but to the general computer-savvy kid the course is super attractive. Sucks that it wasn't around during my time :-/

first quarter of networking I was learning how to make different cables and basically learning basics about computers routers hubs hex etc etc and everything else is hands on hands on. yea basically later i have to pay for the test. i plan to goto moraine valley community college because they have a network program and excellent labs. from there ill transfer to University Of Advancing Technology. hopefully ill do well and end up in the networking field if not something in computers.. maybe someone here will be the next DELL and ill work for them ;-) lol

Man do it. I would have loved to have that class in high school, but unfortunately the only class that we had that involved a computer was "Mechanical Drawing".
