So CCP is going to connect a new console based MMOFPS to EVE Online.

Roughly how it will work.

- EvE players will be allowed to colonize worlds in SIM'S style game play being added to the game which which will be part of the new improved sovereignty mechanic improvements being added to the game.

- These worlds will allow for multiply number of players to each claim their own region on a planet and setup cities.

- Players who do not get along with each other in EVE can go to war with each other over these planets and controlled planetary regions.

- When they go to war they contract out their ground forces to players in CCP's new MMOFPS game called Dust 514 to wage ground combat against enemy forces on the given planet.

- These players will wage war on behalf of EVE players who have hired and paid them to defend and fight for the region of territory on the given planet they have colonized and own.

So essentially DUST 514 players are paid mercs hired by EVE players who control planets. DUST 514 players are used to defend said planets against other hostile players in the new added planetary portion of EVE Online. This new planetary portion is part of the gaming mechanic of Sovereignty being overhauled currently in EVE. This sounds pretty damn awesome if you ask me. If CCP can pull it all off they will have a winner of epic scale in terms of game play and depth.

Edit: A rumor is that DUST 514 players will interact with EVE players via the in game stations where players in EVE will finally be able to step out of their ships.

So it could be that both groups of MMO players will be able to mingle in EVE stations which could bring about a new aspect of game play for players. For example EVE players and DUST 514 players making deals and contracts, selling and buying goods related to the ground based fighting and space based fighting.

so they're basically starting another MMO where people who have been playing for awhile will still have a huge advantage over new players?

This sounds insane in a good way.

If there is an awesome clan or army organization system in Dust 514, there could be essentially a market for hired armies. "generals" would lead armies and their services would be sold to the highest bidder.

Is Dust 514 console based only? That might make me sad, I'd prefer to play any shooter on a pc.

Interesting point of view but I don't see it that way. In fact I don't see how you can come up with the view at all that EVE players will be competing with DUST 514 players in game.

EVE players hire DUST 514 players to provide the merc based protection for the ground combat portion of the game which EVE players have no role in whatsoever in game.

EVE players can build cities and setup sites but according from what I've read they have no ability to take part in the ground combat.

EVE players will only have a say in what happens up above in space but they have no ability to effect the outcome of the ground game.

This is where the DUST 514 players come into play in that they basically can decide the fight for a planet and be the last line of resistance for a EVE player as long as their ISK wallet can keep the Dust 514 players on the planet slugging it out and the skills of the DUST 514 players is great enough to keep rival merc outfits at bay via FPS style combat matches/battles.

All player interaction between both groups will be done via in game stations which would allow EVE players to finally walk out of their ships and Dust 514 players the ability to interact with another set of players who provide the money, means and reasons to fight in this MMOFPS.

@Drift3r

Someone could play both games and gain advantage in one game by playing the other.

I imagine that you could be a commander of a merc group in Dust 514 that did everything right and won the ground war but if the EVE player that contracted you screwed up and lost control of the local planetary space you would essentially lose that battle.

Not really, the interaction between the two games is minimal enough that it won't really matter.
