This will be the beginning of the end of private ownership of firearms in this country.

Probably not. That seems like a huge stretch considering this was likely to happen regardless. Just in case stupidity prevails, though, I'm going to buy the guns I've been wanting for a while next week.

Different cultures don't mix and that's pretty much the bottom line. Some mix more violently than others. It's ironic that America calls herself great because of the melting pot thing, but it's the fucking root of our problems.

Don't blame America, blame the pieces of shit that don't want to melt in this pot.

I'm not blaming anyone or America in any way. The problem is we're dumping oil and water into a pot and then getting pissed off that it isn't mixing. An individual person can be totally batshit crazy or completely normal, but a culture is much easier to generalize accurately. There's a culture here and everywhere else obviously and some will mix better than others, but not all of them will and we're starting to see the results of that in my opinion. I don't think what we have is perfect, but it could be a lot worse and I'd like to keep that from happening. It seems to be impossible, though, because everyone is preaching tolerance and no one really means it. Not all of us need to cohabitate.

Without the melting pot what are we? White American culture? That shit is boring and tired.

The idea isn't necessarily bad and it worked for a while, but it can't go on forever and people have to start realizing that. You can't assimilate everyone and some cultures are explosively incompatible. Our country embraced the differences to some degree for a long time and it seemed to work for the most part, but that was with cultures that respected what was already here when they arrived. I think it's total bullshit to label the USA as a giant melting pot and that we should fully embrace anyone who wants to live here. People are fucked up everywhere, including here, and that's never going to change, but there are limits to everything.

It sounds like the cop got scared of the scary black man and when the man told the cop he was carrying the cop panicked and took the mans hand movements as if he was drawing his gun. This is Minnesota so maybe the town isn't all that black and perhaps the cop just assumed the guy was a gangbanger or something.

The call that brought the police there needs further investigation and it may turn out that the bum, being blown off by the dead guy, called in to hassle the guy that didn't give him money. I doubt there's anything they could do to prosecute the bum but it's sad to think this may have started the chain of events that lead to death.

If the dead man did in fact pull his gun on the bum you can bet that will be used to dirty his reputation and be used as a defense by the cop. It may, if true, call into question the actions of the dead man but that doesn't justify the cop shooting.

So, no winners, just losers...

And unsustainable.

We are predisposed to gather around people who are like us physically and mentally. As long as everyone is behaving in a similar way, we can get past the physical part and as long as there are enough of us with similar viewpoints we can just make it work I guess, but only temporarily. That's worked for a while and probably even introduced diversity that was positive, but it doesn't scale forever and it's not sustainable.

As far as I know, we're the only animal on this planet that regularly tries to convince ourselves that being different is good and we should just accept it to the degree that we intentionally mix with people who believe _completely_ different fundamental things about life. Even moderate islamic beliefs are very different than what we believe as Americans. Crazy religious nuts, regardless of which deity they're sworn to worship, are pretty much always going to be at odds and that's not really the only problem we're facing. It's a major one, but there are also plenty of people who simply don't want to integrate.

How often do you see hammerhead sharks hanging out with great whites? Yeah, it's not exactly the same and I know that, but the point remains that long ago groups of people developed different propensities for certain behaviors, beliefs, and cultural boundaries because they were with their own 'pack'. All of a sudden, we've become super modern and super transportable in a few hundred years while our biology is still lagging way behind. It's like my son when he was a baby - he learned to walk almost 4 months before a normal kid learns to walk and, as a result, his brain was lagging behind. He hurt himself constantly because he had no ability to understand anything around him yet. As soon as he got a little older and had the ability to understand his surroundings, he stopped being so stupid. The fact that he could walk prematurely before his brain had caught up was a huge problem and that feels similar to what all of us are doing now. Maybe mixing is the way of the future and maybe it's how we will ultimately succeed as a species, but our moronic behavior and completely irrational religious zealotry would have to go by the wayside. As it stands, we can't have both and I think recent events as well as most of our recorded history has proven that.

Ancient cultures that weren't brutalized by larger invading forces had no issues remaining practically homogenous for thousands of years. Life probably sucked for people at the bottom, but that's true right now as well. The difference is they got stomped on by invading forces and we probably won't. We're imploding. I don't claim to know exactly why, but I can't see past the cultural issues at the moment because they are real and significant and seem to be the main reason the shit is hitting the fan all over the planet. In the end, all I really want is for people to stop being fucking retarded and to stop killing each other, but I don't think that will ever be a reality.

I'm rambling and I know that. Sorry.

I believe you are confusing/combining two different incidents.

Conflation.

A homeless guy called the cops on him and then the cops put him a choke hold because he was selling cigarettes but then he ran and got into a car with his wife and child, who were hiding in the trunk with a sniper rifle. They then hopped into a Ford Bronco and led the police on a low speed chase through LA.
When they stopped, a bunch of officers surrounded him and beat him with batons on video. He escaped again because black people are naturally good at sports, and then was shot as he was speaking in Memphis.
Then he got up and asked to be referred to as Blade and filmed a movie with Jessica Beil and Deadpool stoned out of his mind.

lets see if this turns up true
“I’m going to stop a car,” the officer says on the recording. “I’m going to check IDs. I have reason to pull it over.”

“The two occupants just look like people that were involved in a robbery,” the officer says. “The driver looks more like one of our suspects, just ‘cause of the wide set nose,” the officer continues.

If you get pulled for driving without a license MULTIPLE FUCKING TIMES, they should impound your damn car.

It's kind of expected for low incokme people. Your license gets revoked because you can't pay a fine, then you get fined for that too. Once they get you on the fee treadmill, it's pretty lucrative for the city/county/state.

(Wisconsin, but basically the same system everywhere.)

Car insurance can be crazy-expensive in certain zip codes too.

This is what I always assumed. As a non-American, carrying a concealed weapon always just seemed like a license to be shot by cops (or anyone else carrying a weapon). Such a strange obsession you all have. :hmm:

Considering that I can't name a single society that has integrated well with a completely different society... this almost seems inevitable when you try to force different life-styles together.

Agreed, just pm me the name of your FFL guy, and we'll have him send your guns to my FFL guy, and your conscience can be clear, and I promise I'll give your guns a good home. How much do you want for them?

Well, I can't say I'd want to get in a car accident with the guy, but school food service dudes make like $14/hour so I can't say I'm surprised.

Looks like we were smoking pot around the same time too.

So he was a habitual traffic offender, I fail to see how that plays any part in his untimely death. I'm not believing this cop had on his mind any excuse to shoot at a black man but it's readily apparent listening to the dispatch audio he just freaked out by the guy going for his wallet. If you're that paranoid then you don't need to be an LEO, yea, I get it that it's a dangerous job but you can't get fucking twitchy and blow someone away like that. He should face 1st degree manslaughter charges.
