I've been fooling around with this for over 14 hours....
I've been burning audio CD's using Windows ME, Nero, and Cendyne 16x10x40(TEAC CD-W516EB) for about 6 months with no problems. All the sudden I have a terrible static pattern on the audio CD's I burn. The noise gets louder and softer and seems to repeat itself throughout the CD. It sounds like I'm playing an old scratched up album on a cheap record player. I have not changed the media I'm writing to and do not know of any recent software that would cause the problem.
When I try to write a data disk, it appears to burn, but during verification I get the error Cannot mount the written CD. The CD cannot be read after that.
Here's what I've tried...
uninstalled all media players that may have been upgraded recently
renamed extensions of drivers that might be causing problem (list was on Nero's website)
upgraded Nero
Removed TEAC from devices and rebooted
defragged my hard drive
Tried copying from a CD instead of hard drive
Uninstalled all recent software
Restored Windows ME to a point before problem
Cleaned dust from PC interior (used compressed air around the burner)
Tried writing to CD-RW's and other CDR's
Installed NeroASPI from their website
Uninstalled Nero and reinstalled
Tried various combinations of burning properties
Nothing has helped or hurt. I'm out of time and ideas. I can't imagine what might have caused the problem to begin with so I think the CD burner is trashed.
TIA for any help.
