CD Projects 72 case and 48 12x Long strategy Cyanine, Azo CD-Rs $9.99 with no rebate at Officemax

As most of you already know in todays OfficeMax it has CDProjects 72 capacity CD carry case (UPC 7 36729 75193 9) on sale at $9.99 (reg. price $24.99). The case comes with bonus 48 CD-Rs made by Pengo. No rebate is needed.

I bought a case and was surprised to find the CD-Rs had a nice blue bottom. Ran cdr id and this is what i got

That's right. Same dye used in the Taiyo Yuden disks given that it is made by Ritek.

The disks are only 12x and 650 megs 74 min though. For this price for the case and the disks being long strategy it can't be beat.

Don't really know about the quality of these Ritek disks, but I decided, what the heck, the CD holder is worth something if nothing else.

I did a simple audio CD copy using Nero to my Liteon 12X drive. Much to my surprise, I put the audio CDR in my toughest test -- a Toshiba 1600 DVD player, which had never played a CDR before, and it played the disk almost perfect. I was shocked. It did hang once, but at least it was recognized and played most everything. The CDR disk played fine in my other less demanding CD players. I also tried a data CD and it worked fine. Considering there is no frigging rebate to worry about, this is a good deal. The disks look like pretty good quality, and CDRID identified them the same as the first post.

After checking these Ritek CDRs, I decided to check the cakebox of TDK CDRs I have been using since last year. These TDKs have been excellent disks for me. Guess what, they are identical Ritek disks to the ones I got in this deal. Not sure why Ritek's reputation isn't great, but these TDK disks have worked excellent -- compatible and reliable.
