Cd Protection = virus??

My friend just came out with a new re-mix album. So he's sending me a copy and I ask him if i can copy it and give my relative a copy. He said "NO because if you try to trip it, there's a virus on a random track that'll slow down your hard drive"

With that, he's going to send me 2 copies instead of one.

Can what he's saying be TRUE??

I mean, WTF? Can't other companies do that to protect their software? or would it be illegal??

A virus would have to be on a data track not on any of the audio tracks. This is a really really stupid thing to do by the way, since attempting to copy an audio CD for personal use is still legal (not covered by the DMCA) anyone harmed by this virus could sue for damages.

LOL yeah, it's a scare tactic. Nothing like that exists, and it possibly can't. What if i buy a CD and what to load it on my mp3 player? I can't do that?

i was thinking that. i mean he's going to send me 2 copies instead of one. so he wastes more money. its not like i'm even paying him for the 2 copies. anyhow, i'm going to try and rip them and see what happens. he did mention what he was doing was illegal. whatever. i just wanted to know if that was possible.
