cd rom drive not booting

What would make a computer not boot from the cd-rom drive?
I've checked the bios, tried settings like cdrom/a/c
and d/c/a <-its drive d.
the cd's fine, and bootable, as it works in my other comp.
and also, if i boot with a dos boot disk, i can read the drive through dos.

Do you get a reply like &quot;Press any key to boot from CD&quot;? Some systems prompt this way up in the upper left part of the screen. Maybe your monitor is stretched too high and you cant see the prompt.

Is your CD-ROM being 'autodetected' in your BIOS ?? CD-ROMS will work fine when set to 'NONE' but they willnot boot unless they are detected by the BIOS.
