Just today, when i put a CD into the drive, it doesn't seem to read it. I am running windows XP Pro, and when I click on "My Computer" it just says "CD Drive", as opposed to the name of the CD. I have opened up my computer, and I tried using a different power rail, and then I double-checked the IDE connections, and everything looks fine, but itmde on difference.

Does anyone ahve any suggestions/ideas/comments about what I might be able to do? I wanna play DiabloII!

P.S. The CD Drive is a Plextor 16/10/40a, so it's a good quality drive. Also, if I have left out any information, LMK, and I'll post more!

One more thing I just noticed: Normally, when a CD is in the drive, the green light on the front of the drive flashes randomly. Now, there is a yellow light flashing, and I have no diea what that means....

EDIT: After some MORE poking around on the Plextor site, I found the blink codes page. It is an "amber" light blinking twice, which means the CD medium is bad. I find this strange because the CD was working fine before, and I even tried some other CD in it. Well, I will keep messing around with it, and if anyone has any ideas in the meantime - feel free to post

Been running into the same problem on my roommates computer. He's had a CD-ROM and a CD-RW that has malfunctioned on him this year. We replaced the CDRW but trying to figure out how to fix the CDROM. It's a Vintek VIN-40A and I can't get it to read anything. The light blinks, it shows up in the BIOS and in Windows fine, and of course, windows says it's working fine.

But it isn't. Curious to see what troubleshooting we can do to fix these drives. I'm running out of ideas.

You should try several different kinds of CD's in the drive that is giving you trouble. Try CD-R's that you have made as well as a game CD and a music CD. If all else fails then you can RMA it.
