stay away from Mad Dog products and there rebates..I tried to call recbater center etc and never got a $30 rebate on my dvd rom from them...

Liteon's tend to better readers in most but not all cases...

I don't know what disturbs me more - the thought that I don't understand that comment or the thought that others do.

The microadvantage, utmost and maddog are NOT Lite-on rebadges. I don't know about the mediastor, but since its a 32x rewrite there's a chance its a lite-on. Don't know for sure though.

FYI, they don't have it this week, but BestBuy periodically has the Norcent 52x32x52 for $20 after rebate. That drive IS a Lite-on rebadge. The norcent boxes I've seen are not sealed so you can peek inside and verify it's a lite-on. The mediastor boxes are sealed, that's why I don't know what's inside.

yeah, me too. A lot of people bad mouth BTC CDRW drives, but I've not had any problems with them. I did have a BTC CD drive that was a piece of crap though.

Someone mentioned in the OM thread that the Microadvantage may be a BTC or Cyberdrive. I currently have a Cyberdrive rebadge that seems to be working great. I got it to replace the POS Lite-On that crapped out in less than 3 months. Go figure...

I prefer Lite-on. All I heard bout for years was how good Plextor was, blah blah blah. I bought a Plextor 48X and all I have had are problems. Drive door wont open unless you press it 30 times, Won't read high speed CDRW media (Lite on will), etc. Junk IMHO.. Never again will I have a Plextor CDRW. I will take a Lite-on hands down over a Plextor CDRW any day of the week. Never had Samsung or LG(Goldstar) have heard good things about LG. But Lite-on rules in my opinion. Plextor is sending me a replacement drive for the one I have now. The moment it arrives its going to Ebay and I will get another lite-on the moment I can find a deal on one.

P.S. Are all the Norcent CDRWDrives Lite-on??

And MadDog Tech support phone number is dead, no matter what time you call them.
I had my rebate more than 5 months to get it back.

Mad Dog is Mad Dog

a few weeks ago was in BB..looking for a CDRW for someone..BB had 2 returned MediaStors 52x32x52x..asked the tech behind the counter as he was looking at them if I could see the label on the 2..both were Top-G ....I thanked him for his time and went and got a Khypermedia(Cyberdrive in the box I'd got ) at OM instead.

Hey everyone, first time posting here... lllllove the site and thanks for the cdrw hookup. I dig lite-on but if I need a cheap drive for a system that's heading towards the pc graveyard then something like this helps a LOT!

Just some verrry helpful info on the Officemax deal... this is kinda HOT!

OM will substitute drives if the MicroAdvantage is not in stock... I went today and looked at the list. They had the Kyphermedia, Pacific Digital, and the MadDog....The Kypher and PD were OOS so I nabbed a MadDog. 40 bucks with 30 dollar rebate... same as the MicroAdvantage. Even though it's not a great drive this info may be helpful if someone preferences one of these drives.

As far as the MadDog goes, I can't tell if it's a Rebadged whatever... but the front of the drive is nothing like the front of the box. It shows JustLink (which is a Ricoh technology) and no mention of MadDog anywhwere. The Drive has some info on top if it helps

CD-RW Drive Model No. WRR-52X
Ultima Electronics Corp.

94E-0229-D50

Ohhh there it is... it's an Artec WRR-52X explosivelabs review The pic on the left is exactly the same... may not be the same drive in all boxes... hmm.

Scratch my post above... well just the part about the MadDog drive being an Archtek.... I think someone screwed up as when I opened up the drive it had a copy of Microsoft Windows Me.... original disk. I think a blank cd-r disk would have more value but at least it lets me know that they gave me the wrong drive... wonder if I should just hold on to the drive or if I should keep going back and see if I can get better software in the other drives

or... this may have been a returned drive that they didn't check the contents. I guess whether it's a maddog or an artek is besides the point... still nice of OM to give substitue drives for the deal

hiya Sal ! as far as CDRW drives Top-G falls below BTC(think they might be the same)as far as I'm concerned ..had put one in a 566 Celly machine ..pushed the cpu to 75% ..dropped an older Liteon 32x12x40 in it ..15% ..ymmv

the sheep is a rating system, ie: the degree of performance with which to be expected from a particular drive. whether it does efm, that sort of thing?

Thanks for the explanation unclebud. Makes sense and so much more tame than what my overactive imagination had dreamed up!
