CDr Data Recovery?

Hey folks, this is my first time posting here. I have searched the forums before, and they have been very helpful; however, not in this instance.

I recently formated and did a clean install of win xp on my computer. I back up some files using a Lite-On LDW-401S. Problem is, one of the discs made didn't turn out so well. I can see all of the files on the disk, and can even copy some of them and move them back onto the computer. Some open, some don't, and the disc reads SUPER slow... Unfortunately, not everything is coming off of the disc and I don't know if I can get them to. It is dorky, but the disc has some of the papers I have written, and poetry of mine on it. I don't know if I have any other copies than this disc.

I tried copying a bunch of times, burning a copy of the cdr, and just trying to make an .iso of it. I can't get it to budge.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

So was the burning of the copy of the disk successful, or did it just not work altogether? Is the disk scratched at all (assuming not, but you never know...)

did you try a different cdrom drive? did you try the disc in another computer all together?

Try washing the CD under regular water and use some hand or dish soap to clean the surface. Just use your fingers to rub it lightly. Then lightly dab the water off the surface to dry it.

It's worked for me in the past, hopefully it'll help you. good luck.

EDIT: This is only going to help if the disc is scratched or damaged in any way. If it's not damaged, try it in other computers and see what happens.

Try using ISOBUSTER (google for it).....its saved me a few times on bad CDR's..............but it can take a LONG time to finish.....so dont expect a 'couple of minutes and its done' type of app....coz they dont exist.

The software said the disc was successful, but I just can't get all my files off of it (or open some of them). I did try two other drives, and the problems were still there.

I can see the file sizes for the files and everything.

I have never heard of ISOBUSTER, but I will look for it and give it a try.

MY GOD!!! ISOBUSTER IS THE SLOWEST PROGRAM EVER!!!

my girlfriend tended it for like 3-4 days and it didn't really work well.

use isobuster only in extreme situations!!!
