check the manufacturers site...or post your drive here. Someone may very well have the same one.

there are usually 3, topps 4 choices.
ain't gonna hurt if you plug the drive in with the incorrect settings.
i'd say for the time it takes, just try any settings and plugging the drive in until it works how you want it to be.
(assuming this is the problem)

In my experience, (looking at the drive from the back) left to right -- Cable select, Slave, Master. This probably is not always true, but its something to start with.

If it's an IDE drive, it'd be just like DaTT descibed.
If it's a SCSI drive then it gets much more complicated
