I have a small issue...using Nero's infoCD...it detects my lite on as a 12x reader at MAX.

There are times it detects it at 48, but MOSTLY...it detects it at 12....whats up with that?

I've tried it with: Blank and Full Media as well as with DMA on and off....

The cdrom seems to run as normal - but I'd like to know why it's reporting that. Any of u have that problem?

My guess is it's the media you're using. Have you used any certified 40x media or 32x? If you're using older media the drive recognizes it and won't run at full speed. I've noticed this too with my drive. I just use better media now.

New Lite-On's have something in their firmware that detects the media's fastest burn speed and set your burn's max burn to that.

I have the same burner and it's true that the burner picks the safest possible burn speed for the media used now. It's called SmartX and if it either doesn't recognize the media or if the media is rated lower speeds, then the max burn is lower than the burner will support. You can get by this by turning off SmartX but then you are running a gamble that it will burn at the speed that you want. If you must go higher than SmartX suggests, I would only go like to 24x if you are using 12x media.

Hi....Thanks for your info.

Ok well at the time my burner was flashed to the latest firmware....also, it was'nt something that happened all the time. It was very unpredictable.
The thing is, the burner would still read at up to 48x (As tested with DriveSpeed? CD Speed - whatever that testing app is called).
The drive would be detected to read at a max of 12x even when there was no media in the drive - and ALL my media is rated at up to 48x. I have Imation 40x CDs and Memorex 40x rated CDs... The memorex are Toyo Yuden, which actually rate to 48x.

Update:

I flashed the drive to be a 48x burner instead and I have the problem no more. Thanx anyways for trying.
