CDRW boot problems

Good day fellow computer type people...

I recently upgraded to an ABIT KT7A Motherboard and I also got a new 300 watt power supply. Before this upgrade everything was fine.

Now the problem is this:

Often when I boot up the system it won't recognize my CD-RW (Mitsumi CR4804TE)). I believe this has something to do with the power supply, because if I switch the system on and then, after a second or two, insert the power cable into the CDRW it ALWAYS works.

The problem is probably the "voltage dip" at boot up, since I got 2 large IDE disks, one DVD, couple of fans Geforce 2 MX graphics card ? well all the stuff listed in my sig.

By the way, If the system has WARMED UP (been on for a few hours) and switched off, then on again, it ALSO always works...

Another way to get the cdrw to work is switch the system off, pull out the ide cable and then plug it back in again before powering on.

Any ideas? Should I buy a new power supply or could the burner be broken?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Deano

PS, cables, jumpers, bios settings have all been tried.

It could be a PS problem but to check if it is, try to unhook your non-booting HD and your DVD. Or you tried switching which IDE channel you have it on, it could be the mobo. And if those don't do anything, it could just be a POS drive.

How do you have them configured now master/slave.....master/slave? I would tend to think it's a configuration problem rather than the power supply......but in any case you shouldn't be plugging in any cables while the power cord is connected unless you want to blow something

Thanks everyone. I've tried different configs on the channels, but again no cigar - same problem.

HotWire, I know I was wrong but I had to try it once to help identify the problem.
