CDRW drive brings system to it knees when blank media inserted.

I have tried two different IDE CDRWs in my system, and when I insert a blank CDR into the drive, the mouse pointer will freeze and the hard drive LED will flash every second or so for about 30 seconds. After that, the hard drive LED quits flashing and everything if fine. I have an ABIT BE6 with built-in ATA66 with latest BIOS for MB and ATA and have this setup:

Ultra ATA primary channel:
WD 40g 7200 ATA100 (running ATA66) HD
Acer 10/4/32 IDE CDRW

Ultra ATA secondary channel:
Quantum 8.1g 7200 ATA66 HD
Memeorex 40X IDE CD

If I put in a CD with data on it, it works right away.
Also, I do shut down all programs other than explorer and systray with no help.
Any suggestions?

I'm too sure if this will solve the problem..but you are killing your transfer rates by hooking up the CD-Rom drives directly to the Hard Drives. Trying hooking up all teh hard drives to the same channel, and the cd-rom drives to the other controller. It'll increase transfer rates, dunno if it'll solve your prob though.

yeah try move the cd drive around in the ide channels... also is udma enabled?
