CD's splitting

I seem to be having more and more CD's these days splitting from the center hole. I even had one explode in my DVD drive destroying it completely :Q

Has anyone else noticed this, I just wondered if they were being made to a lower (cheaper) spec these days.

Can happen if the CD is used in high speed drives.

When I contacted EA ,I asked them if they get many people asking for replacement discs. They said no but I cant believe this is only happening to me. I run them in DVD drives which don't spin as fast as CD drives. I hope Blue Ray discs are stronger assuming the drives spin faster.

It destroyed a 6 month old Sony DVD:brokenheart: but I have Samsung on my main system. Thinking about it they are all EA games.

never once. and i've abused discs like hell..game disks with no cases lying around etc. i dunno, are u doing extreme stress to disks or something? like 52x copying over and over and over and over? most disks just unlock games and stuff, barely spinning up most of the time.

make sure the CD's you buy are rated for your drives speed...they say on the packaging somewhere how much they can handle

The sony was only 24x cd if I recall which is not excessive. I work my systems hard and now wondering if they could be running over temp. I use a Thermaltake with 6 fans but maybe thats not enough. Do these things become brittle with excess heat?

I had a cd explode in a 52x drive. I tried to dig all the bits of cd, out of there. But, the drive didn't last long after that.
